Two days of freedom. Finally.
I slammed my locker shut, grinning like a mad man. No more classes, and no more work, for two full days. I get to sleep, and relax. I hate school. More then anything at the moment. It's so boring, honestly. If I wasn't being forced, I would never ever go to school. It was pointless.
To me anyways.
I walked down the hall, my purse hanging off my shoulder, as I made my way to the front. Gerard had been picking me up everyday since I started here, which was nice. I liked spending time with him. He made me happy. He made everything easier to deal with. I'd be lost without him. Lost and alone.
I looked out the glass doors of my school for Gerard's run down black car. When he wasn't there, I figured he was down the street. So I walked out, and down the block.
Something was going on inside of my stomach. The thought that I'd see him in less then a minute got me excited. I didn't know why I felt this way. I've never felt like this towards any other friend, so why him? I mean, I don't like him more then a friend. I think.. I don't know. I don't want to. It'd be too weird, things wouldn't be the same. So I decided to shut then out completely.
I could see his car parked down the street, loud music coming from the opened passenger window. I think it was Metallica. I smiled toothily as I got closer, recognizing the song Harvester Of Sorrow. It was one of my favorites. I remember the first time i heard it. I was 14, driving to a park with my friend who didn't have a license. We got pulled over, and let off with a strict warning. Good times.
When I got in the car, he turned down the music and smiled. "Sup lady?"
"You're weird.." I said confused. Since when did people talk like that? He laughed, and pulled away from the curb. "So.. What are we doing?"
"You're the girl, you pick." I laughed, shaking my head. "Okay, I'll pick. But it's a surprise, alright?"
"Okay. Can I guess?" He shook his head. I was somewhat disappointed, but rolled down the car window.
It was really nice out today. The wind was just right, making it kind of cold, but still warm from the sun. The orange and yellow leaves blew around, and fell off the trees. Fall is my favorite season.
"How was school?" Gerard asked while picking up a cigarette from the ashtray and pushing in the button of the car lighter. Ugh. Smoking is disgusting.
"Um, it was okay. I got invited to a party next Friday." He smiled.
"Mrs. Popular.." I chuckled shaking my head. Trace was the one having a party. Her dad was out of town for the week, so she was going to steal his key and have a party at his house. Just a few people.. Okay, maybe 10 people tops. But thats not a lot. I don't think..
"You should come!" I suggested. He laughed hard, a little to hard maybe.
"No no no. Party's aren't my scene. Plus I'm probably not wanted." I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up.. Trace is throwing it, and shes cool. She'll like you. Ill force her too." He smiled. "Besides, no 'cool kids' are going. Just normal people."
"Okay, that's where you got it wrong.." He pulled out the lighter, and lit his cigarette. "It goes popular, normal, nerds, geeks, freaks, burnouts, and then me." I burst out laughing, although it wasn't true. But it was still funny.
We spoke the whole drive, until we stopped in front of a small stretch mall. It was sort of run down, the bricks vibrant color had mostly faded, and was now an ugly yellow. There was a sign on the store we parked in front of that read 'Ted Good's Music'. A smile spread across Gerard's face as he stared up at the sign.
"We're here." He said, shutting off his car, and jumping out without saying another word. I smiled at him joy. It was like seeing a little boy on Christmas. The idea that something so small was so important to him, was adorable.
I mean it was absolutely normal.
Erm..
I got out of the car before over thinking what I just thought to myself. Gerard almost ripped the door to the store off of its hinges. I chuckled, and jogged to catch up to him.
The store was bigger than I thought it would be. When you first walk in, there's a huge counter about seven feet away from you. Multiple cartons of guitar pics were spread out, some with cartoon characters, some with band logos, some with radical designs, almost any type of pic you could think of. A man with a bright red tie and a Slayer shirt stood behind the counter, smiling.
"Hey," he said too me. "This is weird. Normally girls don't come in here." He said with a chuckle. I simply smiled, and turned left to where Gerard was.
When I turned, my eyes widened. There was a wall completely covered with guitars. Gibsons, Onkyo, Hudson, all the brands most commonly used. Beside the guitars were strings for guitars and basses. Gerard was looking at a bright red guitar, plucking its strings ad chuckling.
When I glanced in the other direction, I saw the rest of the huge room was full of drum sets. I gasped, thinking I'd died and gone to heaven. I've never seen this many drums before, this many brand new, shiny drums. I got mine from a garage sale, but I still loved him with all my heart. Yes, my drums are a him.
I made sure i didn't sprint towards the one that caught my eye the most. It was black, with six drum going in a semi circle, a bass drum with a kick stand, and four symbols. I bit my lip through my grin. I wanted it. I needed it. I reached down for the price tag. $3000. Holy. This must be one amazing drum set. There was no way i was going to be able to afford that any time soon.
As I was grazing my fingers across the drums skin, a hand was placed on my shoulder. I jumped, and glanced back.
"Like it?" Gerard asked. I sighed softly with a nod. "Do you want it?"
"Yeah, I do. But I don't have any money, or a job." He gave me a sympathetic smile.
"Well, we will find you a job, and then you can get it." I chuckled, still staring at the beautiful drum set.
"Excuse me?" Gerard and I both glanced to the left where the man working at the counter was. He smiled. "If you need a job, we're hiring." Something inside of me exploded with joy.
"What?" Was all I managed to say. The man chuckled and started to walk over.
"Take it." Gerard whispered. "You can get us discounts." I laughed
"I'm Eric Khulu, I own the store. I'm sure if I interviewed you, you'd get the job like that." He snapped his fingers together. I grinned.
"Will you?" He burst out laughing at Gerard. I playfully slapped Gerard's arm, grinning.
"Of course. It's pretty simple, actually. Tell me this. What's the lead singers name of Nirvana?"
"Kurt Cobain." Gerard yelled. I signed loudly. "Sorry.." Eric laughed.
"Okay. Name an album by Metallica."
"And Justice For All, The Black Album, Ride The Lighting, I could go on." I said, holding out a finger for ever album named. Eric smiled, shocked that I knew. Probably because I was a girl.
"Well, you know your stuff. Can you play an instrument?" I almost slapped him. No, I couldn't play any instruments, yet I wanted to buy a $3000 drum set.. I cocked an eyebrow. "Right.. Sorry.. Whats your name?"
"Jess." Gerard shook his head. "Jessie.." I said through clenched teeth.
"Alright. Congrats, you passed your interview. You're 16 right?"
"Yep!"
"Well, welcome to Ted Good's Music, Jess."
