Laurance POV
I drove through the dimly lit city. All the lights were shining on (Y/n)'s beautiful face.
We finally reached my apartment building. I parked in the underground and walked around the car to the passenger side.
I carefully took her out of her seat. I walked up the stairs to the white modern lobby.
"Hey, Laurance! Who's the girl?" The friendly loud voice of Chad, the concierge, greeted me.
"Hey, Chad. Um, she's a... friend."
"Right, a 'friend'" He winked. I rolled my eyes and got into the elevator.
I used my elbow to push floor 29. After the doors opened, I walked to the door on the left side. There was only me and one other person on this floor.
I opened the door and walked immediately to the guest room. I laid her in the bed. She was still sleeping, but she looked restless.
I took her bullet proof leather jacket off. I couldn't help myself from rubbing my finger along the newly exposed skin of her shoulder.
Stop, Laurance, focus!
I went to the room next door. It was where I had all my spy gear. So, there were guns and small gadgets thrown everywhere. I really tried to keep the place clean, but I always ended up getting... distracted.
I found what I was looking for; a shiny grey briefcase. I went back to her room and pulled up the chair from the desk beside her bed.
I opened the case and there was a needle and a small scanner. All the things you needed to make sure that there was no poison in your blood. So, it's basically a blood test.
As gently as I could, I moved her arm towards me. I placed the needle in her arm and she flinched.
When I was done, I put it in the scanner. I looked at her peaceful, sleeping face.
A green light flashed on the scanner. 'Looks like there's no poison.' So all I have to do now is wait for her to wake up.
I moved the sheets on top of her and she rolled her herself into a small ball under the sheets. I smiled. 'She's just too cute.'
I desperately wanted to stay here and watch her sleep, but then I really would be a creep.
I got up and pushed the chair back under the desk. Before I walked out of the room, I looked back at her.
She was tossing and turning.
'Just walk away, Laurance! She's probably just a restless sleeper!
Yeah that's it...'
(Y/n)'s POV
Darkness was all I saw. For some reason, before the world turned to a black blur, I called out his name.
"Laurance..."
I was left alone in darkness with my memories...
First there was a load roar. Thunder and lightning were bursting through the skies. Rain was hitting the windshield of the car like stones.
It was hard to see the expressions on the faces of the two people in the front seat since I was cowering in the back.
I was only eight, so I really didn't understand what was happening. All I knew is that we were running from someone. We always were. That was just my life.
The woman with (h/c) hair looked worried as she looked into my eyes.
"Oh, (Y/n), I-I love you so much, I-"
I never got to hear what she had to say to me. I never got to say 'I love you, too'.
We were pushed off the bridge and smashed right through the guard rails and into the water.
We were all struggling to loosen our seat belts, but none of them budged.
The man with (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes turned in his seat and used a knife to snap the seatbelt off of me.
He did the best he could to smash the back window, considering that his seat belt was stuck.
I crawled through the window, glass cutting through my stomach.
I banged on the windshield, screaming. But no one could hear my screams anymore. All that there was in the lake was a smashed car, and two lifeless bodies stuck in their seats.
I couldn't save them.
If I would have have known that that would have been my last night with my parents, I would have done so many things differently. But I didn't know.
I continued banging on the windshield, even though I knew I couldn't save them anymore.
Out of nowhere, the car exploded. The blast was so big that the fire lit under water.
Glass shards cut me all over, including my eyes.
I tried to open them to see, but no matter how hard I tried, everything was black.
I somehow floated up and was pulled out of the water. After that, I started falling asleep in a puddle of my tears. It hurt to cry, but I couldn't stop.
The rain hit my skin, and I shivered. It was weird feeling the rain, but not being able to see it.
Thunder crashed through the sky again. It seems like whenever there was thunder, it was time for something bad to happen to me.
The next time I woke up was in a hospital room, the beeps of a machine echoing around me.
"This could kill her!"
"Replacing her eyes won't kill her."
"This is the only way she'll be able to see again, she's only eight years old and she still has so much more to see."
"Yes, but this has never been tested before, how do we know if the eyes are ready!?"
"Argument's over. The person in charge of the girl says to do it."
If I would have known that that morning in the mirror was the last time seeing my (e/c) eyes would be the last, I would have stared a little longer.
After that, the next time I woke up, I was somehow able to see again. One of the nurses gave me a mirror and told me that I was the first person with robotic eyes that worked.
I looked at my new purple eyes. I remember asking the nurse, "Will these eyes let me see mommy and daddy again??"
The lady broke down into tears, and that was enough of a answer for me.
'No.'
