I squirmed in my seat and stared blankly out the window as I rested my head on the glass.
"'Cass, it's a new beginning." My mother turned her body and put her hand on my knee.
I ignored her sweet talk and jerked my leg away, she quietly sighed and turned back around. I never liked moving constantly-not that I had many friends before-I just hated it. Maybe it was because my mom wanted to get away from all of the boyfriends she dated, or maybe she's just trying to find home again. After dad died, she's never been the same; no telling.
The car took a sharp turn, I knew what that meant.
"We're here Baby doll!"I looked up at the old house that stood before us. I watched as my mom hopped out of the car and walked to the front steps. Following her, I scanned the outside of the dilapidated house; old and destroyed. I identified the boarded up, broken glass windows and the rotten bricks that held the house up, looking like they'd collapse at any moment. As I looked at every window, I glanced at a figure that stood in one of them but it quickly disappeared. I brushed it off and followed my mom closer to the house.
"This place is perfect. The best we'll ever get." She smiled.
"Not the first time you've said that." I mumbled
"Lose the attitude Cassadee."She sighed and slowly turned the rusty door knob to the front door. I gently ran my fingers across the paint chipped door frame and walked in behind her. The smell hit me as soon as I walked in, it smelled like mildew and rotten eggs.
"Jesus" I said as I covered my nose with my sleeve. My mom walked into the kitchen. I walked around the living room; lightly kicking old crumpled paper bags and broken glass. I walked into another part of the living room and I glanced over at the stairs and had instant interest. I quickly walked over to the ancient carpeted steps and started up stairs, running my fingers on the wall as I took each step. I looked at the separate rooms on each side. I opened the door to the room on my right. Old CDs were scattered all over the floor. I smiled. I picked up each CD and read the labels 'My Chemical Romance', 'Nirvana', 'Led Zeppelin'
"Good taste" I giggled to myself quietly.
"Thanks" I heard a boy's voice behind me that sent shivers down my spine. He sounded around my age.
I spun around. A boy with dirty blondish curly hair stood in front of me.
"Who are you?"
He smiled "I'm Tate"
"You know, there's something called knocking?"
"Sorry, I live down the street. I saw you guys moving in and I thought I would pay a visit."
I smirked "Okay."
I had to admit, he was cute, which made an excuse as to why he was in my house.
"What's your name?" He grinned
"It's-"
"Hey Honey, can you come down here?" My mother yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"I gotta' go help my mom, I'll see you later" I smiled
He smiled back as I jogged out of the room and down the stairs.
