"Cassy?" I nudged her but there was no response, she was ice cold.
"Cassy."
"CASSADEE!"
Constance ran over to me as I hovered over Cassadee. Tears built up in my eyes as I pushed her around and poked at her having some faith there was still hope. "Please wake up! Cassadee please!" She was stiff.
I hunched over her and pushed on her chest.
I screamed at the top of my lungs, "I'M NOT LOSING YOU TOO!"
I attempted giving her mouth to mouth several times but she still lie breathless on the couch.
I turned to Constance, "What did you do?!" I roared loudly in her face
"I'd never do anything to that girl Tate!"
I started to uncontrollably cry but I still pushed through, I tried to be strong for Cassadee.
"Leave! I need time!" I shouted at Constance still facing Cassadee on the couch. She ran out of the room. I kneeled to the floor and continued to cry on Cassy's arm.
"It was a mistake. I broke you, I hurt you. I never meant any of this. I'd never do anything like that to you on purpose Cassadee. You mean everything to me. It was a misunderstanding, I love you so much, I'm so sorry.I'm a monster."
Cassadee jumped up, choking and gasping for air. I wrapped my arms around her as we both cried hysterically into each other's shoulders. "I wanted us to fall in love but instead we're falling apart." She muttered in my ear with the same painful voice she had before when she was speaking to Constance. "I destroyed you... I'm so sorry." I sobbed.
"I can't breathe." She murmured with little breath
"What do you mean?!"
"I can't breathe, everything hurts." She gasped in air as she sobbed.
"Come on! You have to get up! We have to go!" I picked her up bridal style and carried her out of the house
"What the hell are you doing Tate?!" Constance yelled from behind me as I ran to Cassy's house but I paid no attention and continued.
We reached the front door to the house and I busted in quickly, running to Cassadee's room with Cassy still in my arms.
"Hold on Cassy! You have to hold on! Take deep breaths"
I looked around her room, checking under everything. I finally checked her pockets to reveal exactly what I was expecting; tricyclic antidepressants. My heart skipped a beat and I fell to the floor next to Cassadee's bed "Cassadee, how long ago did you take these?" I attempted to speak through the pain and tears
"I'm so sorry Tate." She struggled to breathe in deeply as tears rushed down her face.
She had taken them too long ago to be able to choke them up; she most likely took them about an hour before I got to her. The side affects were kicking in and I couldn't bare to see her suffer anymore. Tricyclic antidepressants were mainly just old school antidepressants that were much more affective; especially if you took too many-- it would only take 30-45 minutes for the side affects to kick in. I could tell she was slowly drifting off with every breath she attempted to take. She was already gone.
I realized what I had to do, what I knew I had to do all along;
"You have to let go, okay?"
I had this feeling, like I was still alive, I had this deep feeling I would never see her again like any other person who passed outside of this cursed house. I did what my mother told me to: to let go. I remembered her sobbing into my ears. I remembered her soothing voice was the only thing that mattered. Cassadee was so far from alive the moment she met this house, the moment she met me. And the only thing that I had in my willpower was to make sure she was safe even if that meant she went down the way I did, peacefully.
She didn't seem to be upset when I said it; it was like she needed to hear it to actually do it.
I passionately kissed her on the lips,
"I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere." I mumbled softly into her ear, sniffling.
She grabbed my hand and clenched it tightly but her grip eventually loosened
She was gone.
