It eventually got eerie lying on the cold floor of the basement so I decided to stop acting so pitiful and walked up stairs, roaming the halls. Suddenly I heard a familiar squeal; Cassadee's. I ran to her bedroom door but it was locked shut. "Stop! Get off of me!" I heard Cassadee's muffled cries from inside of her room. I knew I had to help somehow, I slammed my shoulder into the door various times until it flew open.
A tall man with long grey hair sat on her thighs while she struggled beneath him, her face bright red. "Get the fuck off of her!"
I ran up to the man and threw him off-- causing him to fall to the floor. I hovered over him, punching his jaw and blew one hit to the eye, then standing up and kicking him in the stomach.
The old scraggily man bolted up and staggered out of the room and thumped down the hall. I ran up to Cassy as she lye on the bed huddled in a ball crying, with her knees to her chest. I removed her hands from her face and revealed black and purple bruises across her cheeks,
"Jesus Christ Cassadee"
Her eyes were bloodshot and swollen with tears streaming down her cheeks. I pulled her to my chest and began to stroke her hair.

"Who was that?" I asked her softly. She pulled away to look at me.

"I-I don't know" Her words were hesitant.

I jumped up from comfort and hurriedly walked into the kitchen, Grabbing ice from the freezer and wrapping the ice in a small dry rag that sat on a rack in the bathroom. I made my way back upstairs and into her bedroom, jogging over to her bed and sitting next to her. I handed her the rag and she pressed it to her cheek. Her sleeve was slowly rolling down but I didn't pay much attention to it.

"I won't love you any less, even if you hate me-" She interrupted.

"I don't need this right now, Tate, please."

"No, I'm not going to lose you, not like Violet. Your different, you have potential, I can tell. You're special; to me especially. I'm not going to let Violet ruin something else." She looked up at me with tears falling from her cheeks.

"I-"

She started but I ignored her, I noticed her sleeve down to the middle of her arm, revealing fresh cuts all down her wrist.
"Cassy, what are those?" I gently grabbed her wrist, causing her to drop the ice.

"Stop!" She quickly pulled her wrist away.

"What are you doing to yourself Cassadee?!"

"I'm sorry, it's just-"
"You don't need to do this. Life is hell, I know, but you have me and your mom. One false cut and you could be falling to the floor, taking one last breath. I know it's hard but you need to hold on... for me."
"You don't understand Tate! My mom brings guys in every night--some of them beat me for their own amusement, I don't know why. I just want to die! I can't take anymore! You're all I have! Now I'm losing you and I don't know what to do, Tate!" She paused.

"I love you! Okay?" She put her sleeves over her face and began to cry. "I love you too." I gently smiled at her and dried her tears. "It'll be okay. I'm here" I hushed her to sleep.
