Zach leaned forward in surprised. "Ty..." he whispered softly to her. "Ty, if you can hear me squeeze my hand."

It took a little bit, almost as if she was searching for the strength to do so. However, eventually, he felt it. He felt her weak grasp.

Quietly, she let out a breath of releif. "Jesus Christ ty... I thought I lost you."

For a moment, he had to contemplate of what he was going to say.

She needed to know though, Ty needed the truth.

"They found out why you can see ty... your brain us swollen, something about the temporal lobe. I read about it, on the internet, it controls your sight and a few other things. But I guess that makes sense..."

She remained motionless, as if waiting for him to continue.

So, he did.

"They're talking to Owen about surgery, that they might be able to help you. Get rid of it, make you better.. he doesn't know though, there's so much that could go wrong."

Quickly, his throat tightened up again.

"There's a chance you wouldn't make it through the surgery, that something might go wrong." The thought of him losing her for good, it broke him. "Owens scared, I'm scared..." the tears started to flow, he couldn't hold them back.

Zach was tough, he had to be in this situation. But seeing her like this, pale, motionless, cold, clammy...

"We already lost you once Ty, I'm scared of what would happen if we had to again."

Again, she was motionless.

"Whatever they decide, please- fight. The park is gone... But we arent. We're still here, thanks to you. They just need a little time, Owen just needs to decide."

He didn't notice it before, but as he waited for a response it dawned on him. Her heartbeat began beating rapidly, chimes and sirens echoing from the matching beside her  Zach had seen it in movies before,  but nothing like this.

The line that mimicked her heart beat, it was flat. Just a dead, straight, lifeless line.

The world fell apart.

Zach didn't even feel the doctor pry his hand from hers, nor did he feel the nurses pulling him away and out of the room towards the others.

"Zach, what happened?!" Owen approached him watching the medical staff rush in.

"I-i don't know. She was awake, she could hear me. I don't know what happened she-"

"Mr. O'grady." The doctor approached them as zach's parents took their side alone with Claire and Grey. "I'm afraid your sister's system is failing. If you want any chance of her survival I need your consent for the surgery. " he looked deep into the ex soldiers eyes. "I'm afraid it's the only chance we have."

Owen felt like he was back overseas, the quick decisions haunting him in every way, shape, and forum.

"Okay. Okay yes. Do the surgery."

Like a bat out of hell the doctor was off and commanding the others every which way.

All they could do was sit back and watch.

They all stopped breathing watching them wheel her our of the room and back into the surgic doors.

Other patients families peeked out of the room to watch, but when they looked back all they could see was owen. The grown man falling to his knees, the empty look that washed over his tearing face.

This was it, do or die. And just like she had before, she had to do it alone.

And that's what killed Owen the most.
