Chapter 18 - Then

The week of the Day Dance creeps up fast, and the halls buzz with the chatter about it. The seniors start complaining about having to work it, and the freshman going all out to ask each other to go to the dance. I, on the other hand, could care less about it.

As I walk into school the day before the dance, I almost run into a sophmore standing in the way.

"Hey, excuse me" I say, but she doesn't move, and I can't get around the doorway. "Honk Honk?" I try, but she doesn't hear me.

"Are you a car Cee?" I feel Camdon behind me and give him a look before tapping the girl's shoulder. She glances back for second.

"Hey! That's rude! We are obviously trying to get through! Are you de-" I am cut off by Camdon's hand.

"Calm down Cee." He smiles at me then pushes in front of where I'm standing so he is now behind the girl. "Hey, umm Ella right? We'd like to get through" Ella puts her finger over her lips and nods down the hall.

I squint evil eyes at the back of her head, but follow her gaze. I almost jump out of my pants when music starts playing on the speakers.

"Oh look Cee!" Camdon is all of a sudden a little kid, jumping and pointing quietly. I can't see over the tall girl in front of me and his jumping, and slouch against the doorway. He rolls his eyes at me turns around. "Hop on my back short person" He smirks and bends down a little, and I sigh before following his command.

The scene in so cheesy I could dip nachos in it. A fake red carpet in laid out down the entrance hall with people holding white flowers along the side. It starts at the girls locker room, and a second later, a girl I recognize from the swim team steps out confused. Her hair is still sort of wet, but she's wearing her normal clothes. Her eyes get wide as she looks around before stopping her gaze at where the carpet leads. A smile forms and she starts walking down it and out of my view.

The crowd follows her and so does Camdon, but I hop down from his back. I didn't really enjoy big stuff like that. Too dumb. I start walking the other way but Camdon notices and follows.

"Are you jealous that you didn't get asked yet?" he questioned me sincerely.

"No of course not. I was asked twice but I said no to both of them, plus I hate dances." My voice comes out harsh. "Sorry" I add. "I may or may not be more emotional this week because of stupid hormones" Camdon laughs at my joke and walks next to me as we reach my locker.

"You do know you need a date for the dance though if you want one of those yummy couple cake thingies." He states, talking about a treat that the seniors are forced to make. They're super unhealthy, but last year Camdon was raving about them for a week.

"I don't need one of those"

"YES, you do" He enunciates.

"I agree," Jade comes up from behind. She always gets me from my locker to head to our first classes.

"Well, it's too late for a date anyway guys, I'll just share yours."

"Ha! Nope," Jade laughs. I shrug and open my locker stuffing my books in harshly.

"Celia Joyce Gray" Camdon says loudly and I turn around to see him on one knee. "I demand you to go to the dance with me" Jade kneels over from laughing too hard, but I just stare at him.

"You're kidding right" I raise an eyebrow, but he shakes his head, making his long hair fall in his face. He blows it out of the way, or at least tries too, but it doesn't move.

"As friends Cee." He smiles and stand, using his hand to finally get the stubborn hair from his face.

    "Can I ponder this?"

"No, I demanded you. You have no choice. Unless you are dead, you must go to the dance with me."

"What if I'm dying? Or if my Dad's dying? Or something like that?"

"Well of course then I'd take a raincheck." His smile fades for a second, thinking about something. "Is something wrong with your Dad? Is he okay?" His eyes get wide.

"No of course not, It was a joke. Sometimes I think you have no common sense."

He's silent, but his smile lights up his face again. Jade stands up from where she decided to sit down, that weirdo, and brushes off her pants.

"Okay bye bye loser," She waves and shuts my locker for me, pulling me along to our class.

"Did you tell him to do that?" I ask after we are far enough away.

"No way sweetie, I was going to make you suffer the consequences of saying no to that hot freshman... what was his name again? Angelo?" I shoot her look before we part at my classroom door.

For the record, so no one thinks I'm dumb, 'Angelo' was only twelve and hadn't even hit puberty yet. And going on a date with someone so smart he skipped two grades would make me feel like an idiot. Did I mention he was twelve?

• • • • • • •
I actually like twelve year olds, but a 17 year old character like Celia would never date someone that young... sorry all my 12 year olds out there.

Anyway sorry this isn't posted on a normal schedule, I've been extremely busy since I'm moving and school is starting soon.

But the good thing with that is that my summer job ends next Monday, and I honestly hate it.

Do you guys like when people ask their dates to prom or other dances like that? Cause I have to agree with Celia, it's a bit cheesy. But that could be just because I don't want that much attention on me at once lol.

Stay Gold,
AJ♥️
