Chapter 22 - Then
I pull into the school a minute before ten. I can barely hear the music as I step out of my car and start walking towards the front door, the big glass windows decorated with red and pink window markers. I pause at the back end of my car when my phone buzzes in my hand. Jade promised a place in her trendy purse for it, so I have to carry it until I meet her.
Speak of the devil that's who texted in our big group chat of friends.Jade: Celia Joyce you have one minute to get here. Please tell me you didn't back out
Cee: I'm outside. Walking in right now
I quickly type a response, but my phone buzzes again after pressing send. I'm awful at texting and walking fast, so I slowly walk across the parking lot.
Jade: Camdon where the heck are you? Cee's gonna be here without you
Camdon: In the art room. My shirt button broke last minute so I'm getting it fixed
Tyler: Lol Cam. stop lifting so much
Jade: Stoppp and get in here, it's going to start and the first dance is always the most important for juniors
Cee: You're distracting me. I'm walking slower
Cam: On my way. Smells funky here though, so gonna stop at my locker for cologne
I laugh out loud as I near the door, typing out my next text. My finger hovers over send when I hear a popping sound from straight ahead. I look up, through the glass at the gym doors. The music blasts a bass super loud and I raise and eyebrow.
It wasn't music
The gym door swing open at the same time the glass mural cracks. I watch, stunned as a louder pop sounds.
Then everything happens fast. The glass is blown towards me, and I feel something push me slightly, so I lean forward against the quick force. Something smashes my back and I fall onto my knees. More glass is falling around me, and my phone is way behind me, shattered. I instinctively put my hand over my neck, something I learned in school for tornado drills.
My eardrums hurt, but not as bad and my skin, which stings from all the shards of what I assume to be glass. All I can hear is ringing now, and no more falling pieces, so I turn my head and pull my arms off my back. What feels like only a second ago I was standing about 3 feet forward.
To my side is red glass, and I assume its front the window markers, but as I move my arm and another piece slips out, I realize it's blood. My blood.
My head spins and I throw up right there, and my mind goes straight to Jade and Camdon. I turn to the school, wiping my mouth and coughing. My knees sting as I move the glass around to see.
The school is stil standing, but the gym is looks stange, the door stuck open. I squint, but all I can see is concrete. I look away, shaking.
That's when I feel a hand on my back. I look around to the girl in a pretty dress whose name slips my mind at the moment. She looks distressed, a few pieces of glass stuck in her cheek and her arms, but she it doesn't faze her as she says something to me.
I can't hear her. She shakes her head, mouthing slowing now "Stay put" I shake my head as she runs away. I watch as she gets to another person, who looks like they just pushed out of the far side door. He's coughing, but looks okay. He pulls something from his pocket and hands it too the girl, but as she puts it to her ear - a phone I'm assuming - she turns towards the road, quickly handing back.
I can hear it slightly too. A siren. A few seconds later a fire truck barrels in, barely missing some of the cars who parked on the sides.
My hearing comes back slowly as I watch as the run, in slow motion towards me. Only one stops, the others running past into the school. Its as one reaches me that I pass out.• • • • • • •
AHHHHWELL NOW YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN SEATTLE
I mean you don't know the details (you will soon enough) but...
Anyway it's sorter, but that cause it had to be.
For any one who was confused, when 'it' happened she saw everything in fast motion. One second she's texting the next second she's on the ground with pain. Then it's normal speed, as she watches stuff happen but she's practically paralyzed from pain.
Then when the firefighters (and eventually ambulance she was just unconscious) came she saw it in slow motion blinks cause she was loosing a lot of blood and her body couldn't handle it.
It's really hard to write something with so much detail from Cee's perspective since she's unsure what's happening, sorry.
Stay Gold,
AJ♥️
