I opened my eyes wide in the dark room. Pale light from the moon leaked in through cracks in the curtains, illuminating the room with an eerie glow.
All was quiet. It was so peaceful, as if the world was mine and only mine. I squinted through the darkness to the wall clock and managed to roughly read the time.
Looks like it says 1:45, I thought. Why did I wake up this early in the morning? I looked around for anyone, but nothing was there that could have moved and woken me up. Swinging my legs off the sofa, I nervously tried to move my ankle. It moved with little protest, though it still hurt a bit. Thank above that it's not sprained or broken.
I was about to stand and go upstairs to sleep in my bed for the first time, when suddenly I heard a loud grumble. My eyes widened with fear and I stayed deadly still. I heard it again, and was about to scream when I felt my stomach.
I slap my belly angrily. "Don't scare me like that," I growled. "My, I'm obviously hungry then..." I whispered as I managed to get to my feet. Resting heavily on my good ankle, I began to hobble towards the kitchen. I wonder what kind of food they have in, I thought as I made my way around the table.
Eventually I reached the door, panting slightly from my still sore ankle. Pushing it open, I looked in to an even darker room. The single window was facing away from the moon, and the blinds were tightly drawn. It was almost pitch black.
I fumbled nervously for the light switch on the wall, afraid of what could pop out from the black and stab me with a knife. Finally my hand brushed over the switch, and I quickly flicked it on. The room lit up and I breathed a sigh of relief.
Leaning against the counter top, I made my way to the fridge. After pulling open the door, a sad sight met my hungry eyes. No good food, only stuff like spreads, butter and eggs. Where's the edible stuff?
Shutting the door sadly, I looked around in the cupboards but was met by the same emptiness. The most edible thing they had was mouldy Pocky. That poor Pocky...
My last resort was the freezer, and I opened it cautiously. I grinned in surprise and grabbed the tub of chocolate ice cream.
"Oh; my sweet darling," I whispered to it. "Why did you hide from me?" Cradling it carefully in my arms I walked over and pulled open a few drawers until I found a spoon. Limping back out of the kitchen and turning off the light, I almost fainted when I saw a dark figure lying on the sofa that I was on before.
"What the hell..." I whispered, terrified. I began to back away when a voice called out.
"It's only me, Kimi-chan."
"Y-Yaito! You scared me!" I managed to reply. I could hear him chuckle before he said,
"Come and sit down. We can share that ice cream." I narrowed my eyes. How did he know?
"Only if you come food shopping with me tomorrow," I told him as I limped over and fell down on the sofa, almost crushing his legs.
"Sure," he replied simply, yawning.
"Why'd you come down?"
"Why not? I do live here after all." I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, I know. But seriously, why downstairs? It's kind of creepy down here at night." I shivered subconsciously. "And cold," I added as I put the ice cream and the spoon down on the table.
I jumped when I felt his arm drape along my shoulder and pull me towards him.
"I can warm you up," he murmured into my ear.
"T-that's um... That's fine! I'm actually just fine now!" I replied hastily, blushing crazily. He leant his head on my shoulder and sighed.
"Whatever you want, Kimi-chan." He suddenly brushed his warm lips against my collar bone. "But, just give me the word and," he kissed my jaw lightly and I could feel my face heating up immensely, "I'll be there." I breathed heavily as he kissed my shoulder sofly, then laid his head back on it. "You're interesting, you know that?"
I shook my head, afraid that my voice would crack. "Well, you know now." He pulled me even closer and wrapped his other arm around my waist, getting comfortable. "I think I'll sleep here with you tonight," he said quietly, and soon I could hear his breathing even out and I knew he was asleep.
I could still feel myself blushing, even though I didn't really have a reason to anymore. Fortunately, I was tired, and when I closed my eyes I was asleep within minutes too. That poor ice cream was left alone to melt, though maybe it wasn't only from the heat of the rising sun.
