Julie entered her room trying hard not to wake Ellie up.
“Julie?”
Julie froze as a deer on flashlights.
“I have been waiting for you to come back, what happened?” Ellie asked as she turned the lights on.
Julie tried to hide her face as she knew it would be evident she had been crying.
“Uh… nothing, just go back to sleep… I wandered off for too long, sorry to worry you.” Julie tried reassuring Ellie, but it didn’t work as Ellie got up from her bed and approached her.
“I know you well enough to know that you’re just lying to me. Tell me: what happened? And why have you been crying?” Ellie countered her as she forced Julie to look at her.
“It’s nothing, just let me go to bed.” Julie said as she tried to get out of Ellie’s grip.
“Who did you come across? Because I swear if someone did something to you I’ll---“
“William, alright?” Julie almost shouted at Ellie as she felt tears threatening to spill once again.
Ellie seemed to be taken back by this as she let go of Julie.
“Did you stay inside The Fortress?” Ellie asked, not really wanting to know the answer since she knew Julie OBVIOUSLY had stayed inside.
“Yes I did.” Julie sighed, “I don’t know how he managed to get in, though.”
“Alright, no one can know about what just happened, and that still doesn’t explain why you were crying.” Ellie said as she crossed her arms and looked sternly at Julie.
“I… uhm… It really isn’t something that’s too easy to explain, you know?” Ellie said almost laughing at how awkward it would all be if she had to explain everything to Ellie at that moment.
“What did he say?” Ellie asked, but then, suddenly her eyes widened, “Don’t tell me you and him have something going on?!”
“No!” Julie answered as quickly as possible, “Although we used to…” she finished just above a whisper.
Ellie gasped. “Why didn’t you ever mention it?!”
“Because I knew you would freak out or something!” Julie said while glaring at her.
“No, but… That explains a whole lot of stuff, you know? For instance, YOU becoming a vampire now seems to have some sort of sense…” Ellie started wandering in her own thoughts as she said this.
“No, it doesn’t explain a lot of stuff: I was just stupid enough to make a promise to the vampire king, and that’s why I became—No, that’s why they forced me to become a vampire.” Julie said as she walked over to her bed and flopped on top of it.
“Well, I’m guessing you did it out of love?” Ellie asked sitting next to her.
“I did it out of stupidity, and now I can’t do anything about it.” Julie muttered.
Silence.
“Well, at least acting out of love counts as an argument in favor to your case.” Ellie tried to make Julie laugh.
“It won’t since it could also mean I would be vulnerable to whatever William asks me to do, and since he’s the vampire’s prince…!” Julie said.
“Yeah, well, I had just thought on saying that you ONCE loved him and that---“
“There are spies in The Fortress, they will try to convince the council otherwise, especially if they knew about William coming here this night.” Julie snapped.
