The continuous beep of the heart monitor kept Kaoru up for several nights. The oxygen that kept his sister alive became background noise. Hikaru and Yuzuha had only gotten to sleep minutes ago due to pure exhaustion. All of the hosts have dropped by several times, Kyoya more than the others. It wasn’t difficult to know why.

Kaoru looked over his little sister again. The wires for the ECG snaking around her small frame. Mina was even plugged in to a machine that read her brain waves. Kaoru sighed heavily and ran his hands through his hair. Even emotionally drained, he couldn’t bring himself to rest.

“Kaoru…” Hikaru whispered, stretching and sitting up with his brother. Neither spoke any more than that. It had been nearly two weeks since Mina was admitted. She has yet to even flinch during her stay. Both twins kept their eyes on Mina for awhile before Hikaru growled. “We need to get out of this room for a minute.” Yet he never budged.

For several long minutes, it was quiet; save for the ecg. Both boys looked to each other, knowing they needed some form of emotional relief. “Coffee?” They asked, and agreed, in sync. With a single nod, they stood and left with one look back.

Mina slept on without even knowing what was going on around her. Her mother brushed her horrid hair, Kyoya gave her small kisses on her hands, Honey and Mori stayed silent by her side, Tamaki and Haruhi failing at keeping things together. Some of the guests from Ouran even attempted a few visits, only to find it too painful to bare. This once proud girl lay weak and barely alive.

Days past faster than what should be possible, and still nothing improved with Mina. Her wounds healed nicely, the gaping hole where her eyes should be was sewn closed and was less daunting. Life for her mother and brothers continued at a slow pace, but they always made time for her.

Finally, after two months of pain, the eeg showed the slightest bit of change. From the near brain dead female, Mina was slowly starting to dream. Two weeks after that, she was removed from life support; now being able to breathe on her own. Kaoru and Hikaru held Mina’s hands as the twitched in her sleep.

Mina pov…

I could hear and feel the things going on around me. Such as, my mom holding my hand and telling me how strong I am. Or my brothers quietly sitting beside me. I could hear the doctors and nurses scuttling about outside my room.

How long have I been here? I wondered, feeling my heavy muscles unable to move.

“Her brain waves have equalized.”

Someone mentioned as the entered my room. My family seemed to be excited about that. They asked questions and suggestions and what not while I listened. My eyes wouldn’t open, my fingers wouldn’t move. I was stuck in my own head.

“Do you know when she will wake up? It’s been almost three months already.”

Kaoru. I felt him stand as a hand ran through my hair. Three months? Have I really been out for that long? The doctor seemed to pause.

“I’m afraid she still have a while to go, but, she can hear us. She knows what is going on, that much is certain.”

Well, at least he had one thing right. I attempted a groan, but it came out as a sigh. Goodness I needed to move around.

Everything seemed to zone out for a moment. Almost like I started dreaming of random crap. Until Kyoya visited for a time. He didn’t say much, but he held my hand while sitting in the chair beside my bed. I wanted to squeeze his hand, let him know that I was doing better, that I was going to finally wake up. But my muscles didn’t listen for a single moment.
