A/N: I have been writing this fanfiction for fun, but I really never published it on Wattpad, until I had courage to do so after some of my other fanfictions became more exposed to more Wattpad users. I really hope you enjoy it ^3^
It has been almost two months since Te Fiti's heart was restored. Moana, like any other days when she didn't go voyage out to the sea, she was harvesting berries and picking coconuts from the trees. Pua helped her as she picked berries to eat.
"Thanks, Pua!" She handed a small basket of berries to Pua. "For you, for helping me." Pua started to dig in as soon as she handed the basket. Moana giggled as she watched Pua munching all the berries because of how cute he was. Then she felt something fall on her temple. It was Heihei. The ocean threw Heihei as he almost drowned.
"Oh, Heihei, I told you to stay away from the ocean!" Heihei clucked. Then she turned to ocean and say, "Thanks for saving Heihei, but please work on your aim so you don't hit me again!" Ocean rose up and made a shrugging gesture. Moana sighed and went back to work. Chief Tui and Sina went up to her, noticing that she has been overworking for two months on the voyage, harvesting, cooking, and making more tools. "Oh, hey mom, hey dad! What's up?" Moana greeted them friendly.
"Moana, your mother and I are getting a little worried about your behavior," Chief Tui's face was filled with concern.
"Uhh, with what?" Moana thought that she was in trouble. "I do everything... did I forget to do something else that I was supposed to do?"
"No honey," Sina started, "you're overworking, and sometimes, we see you at night, just looking at the sky, and you cry sometimes. Everything okay? If you're not ready to be a chief yet, your father can take the seat for a while until you're ready."
"Oh, no no. I just sometimes get a little emotional myself. I guess it's just a phase teenagers go through. Thank you for worrying. Gotta catch some fish! Bye! Love you!" Moana hugged them tightly before sailing off to the shore.
"Maybe, she still miss her grandmother," Tui watched Moana running towards her boat.
"I hope she cheers up in time," Sina went back to their cottage.
While she sailed off to the shore, she threw her net to catch some fish. However, her face was full of grief. She looked down at the water to look at her own reflection. But as she continued to stare down at her reflection she kept seeing Maui instead of her. "Uggh, that's not what I need right now!" She slapped the ocean and made a blur. After the blur calmed down, she was able to see her reflection instead of him. But the tear drop went down from her eyes and then on the ocean. More, and more, and more, until she covered her face, leaned against the sail pole, and sobbed even more. "Why... no matter how hard I try... why can't I stop thinking about him? I'm just a mortal and he is a demigod! I work, I do everything for my people, and I still can't forget him! It just cannot happen! Why... just let me forget him!" As she continued to sob, the ocean slowly rose and tapped her on her back. "Oh, thank you, ocean. I'm just not as strong as I thought I was." The net started to resist. "Oops." She pulled the net and dragged it on the deck of her boat. Although there were a lot of fish caught on the nest, for some reason, she was able to pull it off easily. She threw some small fish out to the ocean and kept some big ones. After collecting about twenty fish, she decided to go back to Motunui. As she was sailing back, she noticed some seagulls flying by her. "I really wish that one of them was Maui's transformation," she said to herself desperately. Then she travelled back without a trace of smile across her face. When she reached her island, she forced a smile across her face and force her cheerfulness out. "Mom! Dad! I'm back with bunch of fish!"
"Welcome back, Moana," Tui warmly greeted her.
"How was fishing?" Sina asked with a voice like silk.
"Fun, like always! Anyways, let's get prepared for dinner!" As she got prepared for dinner, she lit the fire, stuck some fish on the stick for her family, and grilled it. While her family's fish was being cooked, she distributed all the fish they collected today to everyone equally. "Enjoy your fish!" She exclaimed cheerfully each time she stopped by other's cottage and gave them a basket each. By the time she got home, their fish was burned into crisp. "Oh no no no no no! Oh dear..."
"What's wrong, Moana?" Tui quickly entered their cottage, hearing Moana's panic.
"Are you okay?!" Sina came in after him.
"Oh, nothing. It's just, I kinda burned our fish," Moana said a little hesitantly.
"It's fine, let's eat," Tui said.
"Here, mom, here dad," Moana passed out fish to her mom and dad. Then she grabbed the crispiest one. "I'll take the most burnt one."
"Oh no, Moana, you don't have to-"
"It's fine, mom. I'll manage. Plus we have more fish to eat! Enjoy your dinner!" She took the most burnt fish and stepped outside. She kept her forced smile until the cottage was not in her sight. She sat on the tree branch, slowly bit into her fish, and chewed unhappily as she stared at the ocean. Maui? Where are you? Wherever you are, I hope you're doing fine. I haven't seen you in such a long time. I know you hurt my feelings a lot, but, I really miss you. I want to see you again. And I... I... I want you to... stay... in Motunui. Please... come stay with me... Moana thought as she chewed on her burnt fish and wiped her tears away. Her fish was very bitter. Her tears made it saltier. Pua noticed Moana crying silently. Pua nuzzled her waist. Moana cried louder as she hugged Pua. "Oh, Pua, I can't stop thinking about him!" she blubbered as her teardrops made Pua's shoulder wet. After crying for longer period of time, she finally calmed down and withdrew herself from Pua. "Sorry, and thanks Pua. That made me feel a lot better now. Now come along, Pua. I'll get you something to eat." Her smile wasn't a forced one anymore. Pua quickly followed after her. Moana put bunch of berries and fruit pieces on the bowl and gave it to Pua. Looking at Pua eat always made Moana feel better. Then she collected some grains and beans to feed it to Heihei. When Heihei started to peck on the wrong area, she turned his head on the place where she placed the grains and beans. Just then, her mother stepped out of the cottage.
"Moana, there you are. Dear, do you want to eat more fish? I feel bad that you ate the burnt one," she handed out the stick with a perfectly grilled fish on it.
"I'm fine, mom. You can have it, or let dad have it."
"We both had enough. You gotta eat dear. You had less than usual."
"Well, maybe I can have one more." She took the fish and bit into it. It tasted much better than the bitter fish she had earlier. It made her happier as she continued to swallow more mouthful. I'm sure Maui will come to me one day. He will miss me, I'm sure. Maybe he just didn't find Motunui yet. Just because he's a demigod, he doesn't know everything. I'll wait on it.
A/N: About first eight or nine chapters will be mainly about romance, and then it will be about journey and adventure~
