I yawned and turned to face Ron. He was still asleep. I got up and changed into a grey shirt with blue jeans. I walked downstairs and seen dad at the table eating. He was wearing his military uniform. It's been a few weeks since Labor day weekend.
"Morning, Lori.", dad said as I opened the fridge.
"Morning, dad.", I said and smiled, "Where did mom put my oranges?"
"Left drawer.", dad answered, "In the bottom."
I opened the drawer and pulled out a couple oranges. I sat at the table after closing the fridge door.
"How come you were at base?", I asked, still waiting for him to realize he was having a conversation with me.
"Galloway stopped by. Hey, you mind running to the store?", dad asked, not looking up from the newspaper.
"Sure. Got a list?", I asked as I peeled the orange.
"I'll send it to you.", dad said and looked up, "Where's your mom at?"
"She took Annabel up to grandmas. Won't be back until tonight.", I answered.
"You spoke.", dad said, "You are actually talking!"
"Uh, yeah. We just had a full conversation.", I said and his eyes widen.
"You sound just like your mother.", dad said and walked over to me.
He gave me a hug and my phone rang. Dad pulled back as Ron walked into the kitchen. I watched as Ron opened the fridge and pulled out a bottle of what looked like Gatorade. I looked at the caller ID. 'Unknown'. Confused, I answered.
"Hello?", I answered.
"Hi. Are you Lori Lennox?", the male voice on the other end asked.
"Yes. Why?", I asked.
"I'm Miles. I have been tryin' to contact Ron and Lennox. They by ya by any chance?", the voice stated.
"Yeah.", I put Miles on speaker, "I'll leave you boys be. I'm going to head to the grocery store."
"Alright, thanks Lori.", dad said and handed me a list, "This is the list."
"Mkay. Ron, I'm taking the truck.", I said, Ron nodded and I left.
I drove to the grocery store and got what I needed. After paying I loaded the truck up and drove back home. After I unloaded the truck, Ron and dad left. I picked my phone up from off the table and walked upstairs. I pulled out my sketch book and started drawing.
Usually, I'm talking to someone but the house is empty. I ended up drawing Ron and I kissing for some reason. I took the drawing and slid it into my pillow case. What is going on with me? I have a crush on a guy who's probably 30 right now. Why? I sighed.
After three and a half hours of dead silence, dad and Ron pulled into the driveway. I set lunch on the table and began to eat as they made their way inside. Dad was carrying a big bag of sorts. He smiled at me.
"Here. I bought this and thought you'd like it.", dad said.
I smiled and walked over to him. He handed me the bag. Inside were a bunch of toys and a leash as well as a collar. Ron came in and handed me a box. I set the box down on the floor and took the top off. A German Shephard puppy peaked his head out. I reached in and pulled him out.
The puppy licked my face as I hugged dad and then Ron.
"Thank you.", I said.
"What are you going to name him?", dad asked, I studied the pup.
"I'm going to name him.....Bullet.", I said, dad shook his head with a smile, "What?"
"Nothing.", he walked into the kitchen and got himself a plate.
I picked the bag up and sat on the couch. I pulled out the collar and clipped it onto Bullet's neck. I set him down and went back to eating at the table. When I finished, I set my plate in the sink.
"Now that you are out of school for a couple months, you can leave the house when you want. However, we might still need you to take care of your sister every once in a while. And you need to be home by 11 if you end up going out.", dad said, I smiled.
"Deal.", I said, "I'm going up to my room. Come on, Bullet."
I started walking up the stairs and turned half way up to make sure Bullet was following. He wasn't. Bullet was staring at the steps, debating on weather or not to go up. I walked back down and picked Bullet up before heading back up to my room.
I ended up playing with Bullet until I got tired. I set him on my bed and laid down. Bullet curled up on my pillow and I fell asleep.

I stared at the TV, my eyes open wide and tears running down my face.
".....The ambush as we are told was devastating. The Base located on the outskirts of Hannon Hill, Washington DC, is completely destroyed. Several people were inside. One of the men that worked here is at the hospital awaiting surgery. A doctor was recovered from the rubble and strangely enough, his vehicle is still intact. The soldier, Robert Epps, was found in what used to be the cafeteria. Hazel is at the scene. Hazel?", the news reporter said.
"Thank you. As you can see behind me, the base is completely destroyed. I was just told a few minutes ago that the police are looking for someone by the name Lori Lennox. This person seems to be extremely important to the doctor as he demanded to see her. If you know her, please contact the police if you have any information-", I turned the TV off and dialed the police.
"Hello?", a male voice came through the phone.
"Hi. I was just watching the news. A doctor requested me?", I said.
"Are you Lori Lennox?", he asked.
"Yes.", I answered.
"Sir, I have Mrs. Lennox on the phone.", the man said to someone, "What's your address? We will have someone pick you up and bring you to the hospital."
I told him my address and hung up. With in a few minutes, sirens were going on outside. I grabbed my purse and locked the door before getting in a squad car. I looked down at my lap as I fiddled with my thumbs. I hope he's okay.....
