"Damn, you showed her good," Reyna said as they woke up. Molly's face was covered in heavy strips of medical tape, a purple nose showing through.
Tris didn't look ashamed in any way as she tied her shoes in silence. Her face was set and grim, but her lips twitched in a sinister smile as she spotted Molly.
"Attention!" Eric walked in, flicking a dark lock of greasy hair out of his eyes. "I want to give you some advice about today. If, by some miracle, your families do come to visit you..." He smirked and Thalia caught her breath. Visiting Day. Of course. "-- which I doubt," Eric continued. "It is best not to seem too attatched. That will make it easier for you and them. We take the phrase "faction before blood" very seriously here. Attachment to your family will suggest that you are not pleased with your faction, which is shameful. Understand?"
"Yessir," Percy said groggily in a mock salute. Eric's lip twitched in the slightest sneer before turning on his heel and stalking out the door.
The demigods looked at each other, both wondering. Was anyone going to come?
"I'm going to guess Hestia," Annabeth said as they headed down the dim hallway. "Since she was here before, after all."
They entered the Pit. It was almost unrecognizable, seeing people wearing more than just black. Several dots of blue, red, and yellow caught many eyes. White seemed to glow in odd intervals. A single splotch of gray stood on the side. But most people were wearing black.
"There!" Thalia pointed to the gray on the side. Two Abnegation were talking, one with smooth hair in a simple twist and a plain slacks with a gray jacket. The other was shorter, with dark hair in a similar hairstyle and a neat gray blouse and skirt. Her face was sharp and defined, like Reyna's, but her eyes were soft and warm. How Thalia spotted them, Annabeth had no idea.
As they wiggled through the reunions, they could see someone else with the Abnegations. Tris.
"Hey!" Reyna stepped forward first and hugged Hestia. As she appeared to resemble Reyna, it was only logical.
"This your mom?" Tris asked politely. Her face was frozen in a smile, clearly unhappy that she couldn't have some one-on-one time with her mother.
"Yeah," Reyna said. "This yours?"
Tris nodded. Hestia clasped her hands together.
"It was lovely meeting you, Mrs. Prior," she said politely. "But I think I need to catch up with these kids."
Tris and her mom nodded and smiled. Tris shot Thalia a look, one of suspicion and confusion.
We need to talk later, she mouthed.
Thalia nodded vaguely, turning to follow Hestia through the crowd. She navigated the hallways like she'd memorized them, which as a goddess, she probably had, until they reached a large cavern with a net strung up across the majority of the room.
"So what's up?" Nico leaned back on the net and folded his arms behind his head.
Hestia sat on the floor and folded her hands. "I'm simply here to check up on you," she said pleasantly. "How are things going?"
The demigods looked at each other.
"Alright, I guess," said Percy unhappily. "I mean, we have to fight each other until the other is knocked out, and we can't use swords, only guns and knives, and you don't get blue cookies after capture the flag, and surfing isn't a job option, but you know, all in a day's work, am I right?"
Hestia shook her head sadly. "Do you now see why you were sent here?"
"Besides the fact that this world is completely screwed, and one of the factions is ready to hunt the other into exile, I'm going to guess it's because of their limited clothing options," Thalia said, crossing her arms.
