Chapter 39: Say What?

Jasper's P.O.V.

As soon as the family's shock over Liam's gift had worn off the room erupted with sound.

"That's not possible!" Yelled Emmett.

"You knew he could do that and you didn't tell me! How could you?" Rosalie growled pointing an accusing finger at Alice.

"That's amazing! How does it work?" Of course Carlisle was already starting with his 5,000 questions.

"Wait...what?" I heard Isabella almost whisper.

"Are you saying I am going to be a grandma? Oh.. I need to go shopping!" Esme asked excitedly.

"I knew it was something big... but that's crazy!" Peter said placing his hand on my shoulder.

"I am so happy for you guys... Oh, I am going to be an aunt!" Charlotte gushed.

"Fertility... you mean as in... a baby?" was my own genius response.

"Yes, what it means is Bella you’re not sick at all... you’re just pregnant!" Alice announced jumping up and down with joy.

Suddenly all of the conflicting emotions in the room stopped as the room was flooded with a huge wave of calm. What the hell... I didn't do that. I thought to myself. Isabella stood up "That's enough! Everyone just needs to shut up and sit down!" she yelled. Everyone did as they were told. Probably because, like me, they were shocked by Isabella's outburst.

Then she turned to face Liam. "How can I be a pregnant vampire? This makes no sense. So Liam, I need you to tell me how this happened." she said more calmly. Before Liam could answer her, Emmett decided to ... well be Emmett. "You see Bella, when a man loves a woman very much.." His lovely story was cut abruptly short when Isabella's force field slammed into him and pinned him against the wall. "SHUT THE HELL UP EMMETT! THIS IS NOT FUCKING FUNNY!" she growled at him. To be honest it was the sexiest thing I have ever seen but I should probably save that for later, judging by her current mood. "Sorry Bells. Won't happen again." Emmett said and Isabella released the force field and he slammed into the floor. My beautiful mate smirked at me before turning back to Liam. "Explain." She said to him.

“Ok. So like I said I have the power of fertility. I can make anyone become pregnant.” Liam said. I growled loudly as I stood up and began to advance on him. Liam threw his hands up in defense. “Not like that, Jasper, I swear! Let my rephrase that.. My gift is to allow anyone to become pregnant.” He said quickly. Satisfied with his answer, I sat back down.

Isabella looked confused. “Ok. Buy why use your power on me? Why not use it on someone like Rosalie? She would kill for a child.” She asked. The way she said it made it seem like she didn’t even want the child who was already growing inside her womb. This made me sad.. In my human life I had always wanted a family of my own. I always thought I would have many children but when I was turned into a vampire that dream died. Vampires can’t have children. To me, Liam’s power was a true gift. As I examined Isabella’s emotions further, I realized that it wasn’t that she wasn’t happy about the baby. She was feeling guilty, probably because she knew how badly and for how long Rosalie had wanted a child.

“I didn’t mean to use my power on you, Isabella. In fact I have only ever used it twice before. It happened when I helped to change you. Alice and I knew that it was a possibility but we didn’t think that it would happen. I am so sorry, Bella.” He said sadly. “Don’t apologize, Liam.” She said placing a hand on her still flat stomach. “What you have done is wonderful. You have given me the power to give my mate something I never thought that I could. A child.” She said pulling him into a tight hug.

Normally I would have never allowed my mate to be that close to another mle, but Isabella was right. Liam had truly given us the greatest gift of all. To be honest I wanted to hug him myself, not that I would ever admit that. “Ok Liam, why don’t you, Jasper, Isabella, and I go up to my office.” Said Carlisle with a smile.

Carlisle’s office

Bella’s P.O.V.

Carlisle sat behind his desk while Liam sat in the chair across from him and jasper sat in the chair next to Liam and pulled me into his lap. “So you said you have used your gift twice before? How does it work? What should Bella expect?” Carlisle asked in a very business-like way. “Yes I have, both were a very long time ago, but both pregnancies were without complications and both babies were born healthy.” Liam said happily. That was good to know but I was really curious as to how my unchanging vampire body would be able to grow to accommodate a baby. “Bella will only be pregnant for six months compared to the standard nine months for human gestation. Each trimester will last only two months. My gift allows her womb and birth canal to grow and change according to the needs of the child, so she will be able to give birth naturally.” Liam explained more to me and Jasper than to Carlisle.

The good doctor looked deep in thought. “Is there any way that I could monitor her pregnancy?” He questioned hopefully. Liam was silent for a moment before he said “I think with a little tweaking, a standard ultra sound machine should work.” Carlisle seemed satisfied with that. “Oh Carlisle, how soon can you get the machine? I can’t wait to see our little miracle!” I practically yelled. Carlisle laughed “I should be able to get one here in a week or so.” He told me.

Then Jasper asked the question none of us had thought of. “What about the blood? How is the baby going to survive if she can’t keep anything down?” Liam smiled as he said. “She will be able to keep blood down once she starts eating some human food too.” What? Why would I need to eat? “Liam why does she need to eat human food? Will the baby be human?” Jasper asked the worry evident in his voice.

“No the baby will be fully vampire… but it will need human food throughout the pregnancy and for the first four years of it’s life to support growth and development.” Liam answered. With our questions answered, we all went downstairs to join the rest of the family.

A/N: ok so this chapter was a lot of dialog but I thought it was need to explain what is going on.
