Chapter 40: Seeing Sense

Bella's P.O.V.

it's been three weeks since Liam dropped his bombshell about his gift and my pregnancy. things are finally getting back to normal. well as normal as life as a pregnant immortal can be. Rosalie is even on speaking terms with Alice and Liam again. We all understand why he would want to keep his gift a secret. I mean if the Volturi found out about his power there are only two possibilities and neither of them are good. They would either kill him or imprison him so they could use his power. it took a lot of convincing but eventually Rose agreed to wait until i give birth to The Whitlock Miracle Baby ( as Peter so lovingly calls my bun in the oven) to have Liam use his power on her.

Charlotte walked into my room carrying a tray of human food. "Hey, bella , i brought you some breakfast." she said as she sat the tray down next to me on the bed. "thank you but you know i dont need breakfast in bed... i am just pregnant... not on my death bed." i told her. she laughed and sat down in the chair next to my bed. " i know that but you haven't been out of your room yet today and i know your hungry. besides, we haven't gotten much time together lately, with Jasper hovering over you constantly." and she was right. Jasper had been at my side almost constantly since we found out i was pregnant. i understand his concern but honestly... i am still a vampire - nearly indestructible. "I know , Charlotte, he has been a little ridiculous lately."  told her before biting into my toast.

"He is just worried about you and the baby.. we all are. plus this is an experience he never thought he would get to have." she said, reaching out to place her hand comfortingly on my knee. "i know he is. hopefully he will calm down after tomorrow." i told her. "Why tomorrow?" she asked. "Well Carlisle said he should have the ultrasound machine ready by tomorrow afternoon! so we will be able to see the baby for the first time! i am hoping that it will put Jasper's mind at ease to see that the baby and i are both perfectly healthy." i told her happily. "Oh Bella, that is so awesome. i cant wait to see my little niece or nephew!" She said bouncing up and down in a very Alice-like way. i smiled "I know ... i cant wait either!"

Rosalie's P.O.V.

I was sitting in the window seat in my bedroom, which overlooked the back yard. I had been deep in thought for hours now. It brought a smile to my face to think of what life would be like not long from now when Jasper and Isabella's child would come into the world and shatter the silence that had filled this house. i will admit that when i first found out that Isabella was pregnant, i was extremely jealous. After all it didn't seem fair that i have been dreaming of children that i could never have for decades and then here comes Bella - newborn vampire - hasn't even been alive for the blink of an eye - and presto ... she's pregnant. but now that i have had time to process everything, i am not mad. how could i be? She is giving, not only Jasper, but all of us an amazing gift. In just a few short months, i will have a sweet baby to hold and spoil. A niece or nephew to cherish for the rest of eternity... now that is a good reason to celebrate.

Now that's not to say that it doesn't hurt me to see Bella's growing baby bump. Because it does and it makes me crave a child now more than ever. Especially now that we know it is possible. Emmett and I have discussed it for endless hours and finally came to a decision. We will wait until after Isabella has her baby to ask Liam to help us conceive our own child. We chose to do this for a few different reasons. One reason is that i would like to see what pregnancy will be like for a vampire. not that anything could change my mind about having a child, but it would be nice to know what i am getting myself into first, that way i know what to expect. Another reason is that i don't want to step on Bella's toes (so to speak). Bella's pregnancy is a beautiful and miraculous thing and she should be able to enjoy this special time as the center of the family's attention.

i suddenly jumped from my seat. All of this thinking about Jasper and Isabella's baby had given me an idea. i quickly flitted down the hall to Carlisle and Esme's room. I tapped lightly on the door before entering ( more out of respect for my parents than from necessity). "Hello dear, is everything alright?" Esme asked as she closed the book she had been reading. "Yes mom, everything is just fine.. where is dad?" I asked with a smile. "Oh good.... he is in his study ... why?" she sounded worried. "I just need to talk to him about this amazing idea i just had." I said reaching out for her hand. " come on, your going to love this too!"

Peter's P.O.V.

I had to get Jasper out of that house for the day. I just knew that if he spent one more day with his head shoved that far up his mate's ass, she was going to lose it. Luckily Charlotte had managed to cook up all the food in the house because i would have never gotten him out of the there with out a really good excuse. sustenance for his unborn child is about the best reason i could come up with. S Emmett, Jasper, and I had headed out first thing this morning.

It was now just approaching sun down and we were heading home. Emmett had chosen to sit in the back of the truck to guard our 'loot' ( his words not mine ), which was fine with me because i needed to talk to Jasper. "Can't you drive any faster, Peter?" Jasper demanded and I could feel the irritation rolling off of him in waves. "Whats the rush brother?" I asked with a smile. "You know damn well that i need to get back to Isabella!" He yelled. I looked at him out of the corner of my eye, even if he wasn't projecting, I could clearly see how pissed he was. "I understand that you are worried about bella ... but she will be fine... its not like she is alone. Charlotte, Rosalie, Alice, Esme, Liam, and Carlisle are all there with her and i gave Charlotte special instructions to stay with her all day." i told him calmly. "Peter , you know damn well that its not the same. i am her mate... she needs me! i should be there with her, protecting her, instead of miles away running meaningless errands with you two!" He snapped.

"Jaz, I know how scared you are that something will happen to Bella ... but Liam has told you over and over again that the pregnancy is perfectly safe.. and i can tell you right now that i 'know' that she is going to be just fine." i said with a smile. " yeah, but what if" He began but i cut him off before he could finish his sentence. "I can also tell you that i 'know' that if you continue to smother your mate the way you have been ... it will be bad!" I saw him open his mouth to object but i continued before he could. "Really bad ... like The Warrior Goddess Vs. The Major bad! now under normal circumstances , that is a battle i would pay good money to see.... but in your mate's fragile state, it could cause serious damage to your unborn child! Is that something you want to happen?" I demanded. "well of course not." He said finally calming down a bit. "Then i suggest you back off a little bit before you get all crazy overprotective, stop and think of how your actions are making your hormonal mate feel." i told him. "Ok Brother, i will try." He said and we rode the rest of the way in silence.
