Chapter One.

"Nothing is so common as the wish to be remarkable." -Shakespeare

Up until the moment of adulthood, you are asked what you want to be when you are older. At 4, you probably said something like a princess or a police officer. When you were 10, it was a rock star, or a fashion designer or maybe even a veterinarian. By now, all your prior ambitions have went straight out the window.

The difference between now and then is pressure. Pressure to do good and make the people around you proud. Before, you would always do what made you happy. If you wanted to play dress up and dance around your house, you would.

Now, as we grow older, we have an image to uphold. We are supposed to grow up in our parents foot steps and be the best we can be.

You can imagine the look on my lawyer of a father's face when I first told him I wanted to be part of performing arts. I think he wanted me to end up in some high end lifestyle, like the one he created for himself.

My mother, on the other hand, fully supported my decision. Despite the fact that all my brother's had well paying jobs and a full career ahead of them, she wanted me to be happy.

After much convincing and my mom's help, my dad decided that if performing was something I really wanted to do, he would accept it.

Soon, I was enrolled in classes and clubs at the local community arts center. My two best friends, Adrian and Eddie, also joined. They shared a love of performing just as much as I did.

Adrian, my best friend since childbirth, is an amazing singer and dancer. He loves to act and is way too dramatic for his own good.

Eddie is different. His true talent is rapping and he absolutely loves hip hop dancing. While Adrian is more on the nerd side, Eddie is what you would call a jock.

When my father realized how good we were, he turned one of the bigger rooms in our house into a studio for dancing, as well as recording music.

Everything was going my way.

That was, until one little move changed my life forever.

"Are you sure we can't come over tonight?" Adrian asked before downing a bottle of water.

"I'm sure." I look back down at my phone.

Davis,

Please be home tonight for 7. I am having a colleague over for dinner. Dress formal as his family is coming and we need to impress them. Jake will be there too.

-Dad

"Eek!" I jump up and down excitedly.

"Now what's got our little Davis so excited?" Eddie asks while packing up his dance bag.

"Is it a boy?" Adrian asks in an overly girly voice.

"Yes, but it's not what you think." They look at me confused. "Jake's home!" I say, resuming with my jumping.

Jake is one of my brothers, the closest to me. We're only 2 year apart and we used to do everything together. When we were younger, some people asked if we were twins because we were always in sync. We could even finish each other's sentences.
