Tao is gone.
Baekhyun was devastated because he believes that it is all his fault that Tao got captured. He could have saved him and fought off the soldiers that were blocking him without any hesitations. If only he could turn back time with Tao's superpowers to fix his mistakes.
The other guardians were feeling down too. No one said anything throughout the whole ride back to the safe house. Everyone fear about what happens to Tao once he gets captured as they all know that guardians get killed immediately after getting captured.
Everyone already assumes that Tao is dead.
When they finally reached the safe house, Baekhyun walked straight to his room without saying anything or uttering a word to his friends. Once he shut the door behind him, a tear unexpectedly flowed down his cheek.
He regrets everything. He kept thinking back to how different things would have turned out if he thinks and acts faster. As he breaks down behind the door, silently sobbing by himself, Taeyeon slowly got out of the bed and approached him. She didn't dare to say anything as she knows that he wants to be left alone for a moment.
She doesn't know what happened, but from the way he is acting, she knows that something really bad must have happened. She stood there, silently staring at him with concern, contemplating whether she should go forward and console him or just let him be.
He silently cried by himself for quite a long time until he noticed Taeyeon staring at him. When their eyes met, she quickly looked away, pretending that she didn't see that.
"You are still awake."he croaked out, wiping away his tears furiously. Taeyeon didn't say anything as she stopped in front of him and wrapped her arms around him. Baekhyun was surprise, but he didn't push her away. He accepted her hug and buried his face in her hair.
She wordlessly comforted him, soothing his back up and down gently with her hand. She hates to see him sad. It's her first time seeing him cry. It hurts her to see him break down like that.
Baekhyun didn't say anything for a long time. He was glad that she is here for him. She really provided the comfort he needs from Tao's death. They finally pulled apart after the sobs died down.
"Can you tell me what happened?"she asked him softly.
"The mission didn't go well."he muttered. "I lost a very good friend."he told her. "And it is all my fault."
"Don't say that. How did it happen?"she asked him. He heaved a deep sigh and sat down on his bed.
"We got ambushed. It seems like they were prepared. They knew that we are coming. Because there are more guards than usual."he said and frowned. "Which also means that there is a mole in our group. Someone must have warned them beforehand!"he stood up immediately. "But who would..."he trailed off and stared at her.
The only people who knows about the plan are the ten guardians and the head of the Movement. And also her.
"Did you-"he paused.
I can't suspect her.
"What? You think that I was the one who told someone outside about your plan? Are you suspecting me?"she asked him, feeling hurt by his suspicions. "I thought you trust me. And even if you don't, I don't even have someone to tell about this plan. I can't even leave this place!"
"Sorry. I'm so sorry for ever thinking that."he apologised, rubbing the back of his nape nervously. "I was just in shock and I haven't calm down yet."
Taeyeon heaved a sigh and pulled his hand down to make him sit down beside her. "It's okay."she flashed a small smile his way. "It's 3 a.m now. Let's get some sleep."
