RECAP:
"You lot have been acting weird around each other." He side eyed me.
"Are you lot... you know..." He used his fingers to show me what he couldn't say.
No! Gah, no." I rubbed my forehead. He nodded, clearly happy about my answer.
"He uh wouldn't let me." I whispered. He spat out his tea.
"Sam, you just had a kid four months ago and you were trying to get some?" He shuddered.
"I know, I know."
"I thought you would've been off of the idea of having sex more so now that you've given birth."
"Yeah I am. I was. I don't know, he's just... perfect." I realised. I thought back to everything he had done for me. He had protected me from the very beginning. He had been there for me every step of the way. Whenever something went bad he was there to help me and pick me up.
"Perfect?" He asked, after being silent for a while.
"Well, yeah." I repositioned TJ on my lap. He began banging his hands on the table and screaming excitedly at the noise.
"Hmm." Was his only reply. Did I say something wrong?
"What?" I asked. He shook his head.
"Sean, what is it?" He sighed.
"He's a lot better than that fool you were with before but I don't see this turning out well for you."
"What do you mean?"
"He may be all cosy with you right now but remember who he works for."
What he said kinda hit me hard at first. Jake was a part of DDK and as much as I didn't like to think about it, he was tied to my father because of this. My brothers and Reuben were all enemies to this gang and here I was sharing a bed and offering my body to someone we were all supposed to hate.
"He's a good guy though." I came to his defense.
"He's been with me through all my hardships lately. He's provided for my son and been there for him since before I gave birth. I can't just drop him because he works for James."
"I'm not asking you to do that. I'm just saying be wary innit. If it turns out James is making him get close to you and he turns on you yeah, don't say I didn't warn you." He finished his tea. He put his mug in the sink and picked up his bag and keys before I could say anything.
"See you later, yeah?" He didn't wait for me to say bye and left the house. I sighed.
I trusted Jake. I would continue to trust him because he had done nothing bad to me unlike everyone else.
So what if he was a member of an opposing gang? He had my best interest at heart and that's all that really mattered to me right now.
END OF RECAP
Two months later
The past two months had passed by so fast. TJ was gonna be six months old soon. As much as I protested, my brothers decided that we'd have a party to celebrate. I didn't see the point and I'd rather just do something small for his first birthday rather than do a big party like this for him turning six months. He wouldn't even remember it.
My brothers were trying to go all out. When they said they wanted to throw a party for him, I hated the idea. They even said they wanted to book a hall for it. I wouldn't allow it and they wouldn't allow him not to have a party. We decided to have it at the house instead but they still said they would invite a lot of people.
