Chapter 2- School
(Edited)
It was still dark when I woke, blame it on my habit of waking up before my alarm. 30 minutes before I needed to be awake, I was awake. It was like clockwork. I sat in bed until I could hear the faint ringing of Bella's alarm through the walls. Groaning, I pushed the covers away from my tired body and moved off the bed.
I didn't understand why people needed to "dress to impress" it was high school, not the red carpet. So being that I would prefer to be comfortable, I grabbed my worn black jeans and a simple top. I knew the moment I look in the mirror, that the rat's nest I call hair would not be contained, so I threw it up into a bun and made my way out of the room. Being so horribly obsessed with books and the piano, I grabbed my favorite book, "The Testing," and my sheet music and shoved it into my bag.
I practically run down the stairs and straight into Dad. He was sitting down reading the paper. "Morning," I chirp. I don't receive an auditory response, more like a nod to acknowledge my existence in the room.
Huffing, I grab an apple from the basket. The sound of a truck's engine makes me flinch. I can faintly see the smile gracing my Dad's face as he calls for Bella to come down the stairs and that he has a surprise for us. I take a bite of my apple and wait for Bella to make her presence known.
After a long 10 minutes, she comes sluggishly down the stairs and walks out the door to our father. He's talking to his longtime friend, Billy Black, and his son Jacob. Awkward nods and comments were exchanged before we got to the reason we were all out here this dreary morning.
Apparently, the bucket of rust that was sitting next to me was to be our homecoming present. I didn't know if it could be considered a homecoming present when it looks like it barely wants to run. I have at least enough knowledge of cars to start it up if it breaks down so that finally might come in handy.
"Do you two like it? I fixed the motor so it should run more smoothly than it used to." Jacob told us.
"Yeah, yeah we love it, right Alex? Bella answers apprehensively.
I could only nod and hum in response. I don't see the point in lying that I actually like the car.
"I'm glad you two like it, get in, test the engine," Jake says. Bella seems excited about the whole ordeal that she barely notices that she hit the poor boy with the car door. I cringe at the sound of rusted hinges. Bella rolls down the window and tells Dad that we are leaving, we don't get a response.
Driving the loudest car in Forks was starting to get on my nerves. We haven't even gotten out of the car yet, and people were already staring. So when we do get out, I make sure to grab Bella by the arm and lead her to the front office. I am not too fond of unnecessary attention.
The office was quaint, and all I wanted to do was leave. So when we got our schedules, I bolted. We compared our schedules, only to find that we have a few classes together.
"We have first hour English together, then gym which is second, we split until lunch, and have math in fifth and then the last hour. Let's go before the bell rings." I say.
The school was small, so it wasn't that hard to find room 22, English class. It was noticeably silent as we handed our teacher our slips for him to sign. The only seats left were in the back, which makes me very happy. I am not the most social person, nor do I want to be.
I sigh as I zone out, the lesson is something we already learned. Great.Class ended, and we headed to gym. Not my favorite, but certainly better than English. The unit was volleyball, the one sport that I actually despise. One for having to make sure that Bella doesn't hurt anybody and two the girls who act all high and mighty.
~~~
The class went smoothly, other than Bella hitting a boy in the head with the ball, but that was not a big deal. After the bell, we went our separate ways, her to Spanish, and me to Biology.
The bell rang practically as I walked through the door. I approached the teacher and handed him the slip. He signed the paper and proceeded to sigh as he realized the seat count would be uneven. So apparently I would have to sit next to two people. Not necessarily my favorite option.
"Jasper, Alice. Raise your hands, so Alexandria knows where to sit." It was then I realized that a person could actually hold the capability to burst someone's eardrum because damn that was loud.
I walked towards the two raised hands and smiled subtly. The two hands belonged to a girl and boy, both very pale and attractive. Surprisingly, they had already pulled up a chair in between them for me.
The girl introduced herself first. "Hey, I'm Alice, you're Alex right?" her voice sounded bell-like, it was startling. I nodded as the boy spoke up, "I'm Jasper." a simple introduction, with thankfully no barrage of questions that I would have to answer.
"It's nice to meet you both," I say with a bigger smile than before.
"Do you want to sit with our family and us at lunch? Since it's your first day and all, I'm guessing you don't know that many people here." Alice offered.
"Yeah, sure. Thanks." I respond with a smile. Alice squeals and then wraps me in a bone-crushing hug. For someone so tiny, she sure is strong. "We're going to be best friends. I can totally see it," she says as she lets me go. I hear a chuckle come from my left. I look to see Jasper with a small smile on his face.
"You don't talk much do you?" I ask him.
"No one really talks to me, so I don't talk," he says. I notice the slight southern accent. It's hot.
"Well, I'll talk with you. Whenever you want." he smiles as soon as the words leave my lips and nods.
