Chimney's POV

I gasped. She was going to get killed. Emma jumped off my back and ran to the lake's edge.

"D!"she screamed. She jumped in."D!"

I saw a dark shadow swim under water. Emma was pulled down.

"Em!"I screamed.

There was a splash in the water as Ant dove in. What is going on?,I asked myself.They're dead. He frantically dove underwater searching for our friends.

Suddenly, Diamond surfaced, flipping her hair over her head. I sighed with relief. When Emma surfaced, her face was red with anger. She jumped in Diamond.

"Why the heck would you do that brat?!"she yelled, grabbing Diamond's hair.

"Hey!"she yelled, taking her hair back."It was just a joke, okay? I sort of want to have some fun on this journey. It doesn't have to be all serious."

"You scared us all to death."I scolded. She looked ashamed now."But you're still our friend."

She smiled."We should set up camp. It's getting dark."

Quake's POV

"...and Red was awesome! He was always defending me. He was always helping me, caring for me, cooking for me. And now he's gone."

Chimney rolled his eyes."Not as good as me though."

I kissed Chimney on the cheek."Not as good as you."

"Eww!"Emma yelled, backing away from me."Do not get lovey-dovey here. That's the last thing I want."

We all shared a laugh.

"And Sly is what the name implies. He was very clever, sometimes using his ability in the wrong way. But I still loved him. And then he left."

Diamond and Ant exchanged nervous glances again.

"Quake,"Diamond said."We have something to tell you. You're...uh...a-"

"You're adopted."Ant said, straight to my face.

A deep feeling of displacement crept over me. I'm adopted?,I thought. I burst out crying. Was this a dream, or all real?

"Your real mother and father died."Ant went on explaining."Fortunately, I was there to have you as my own. But when I had to leave home, I gave you to another family that understood what was going on. We wiped your memory and you were safe."
