Once Shadow and Maria had run downstairs, they quickly sat down at the table next to each other, preparing to eat their favorite breakfast: French toast. 6-year-old Rouge the Bat eyed the friends suspiciously. She did not like the fact that Shadow hung out with Maria so much. It didn't seem fair to her. Before Shadow and his brothers even came aboard the ARK, Rouge was Shadow's best friend. The two of them used to be inseparable- always looking out for one another and were constant companions. That was- until Shadow met Maria. Since then, all that seemed to matter to him was Maria. He'd always play with her and hang out with her; and this made Rouge wonder if Shadow even cared about their friendship anymore. Her thoughts got interrupted by a little hand touching her glove. Rouge looked to see that 2-year-old Silver the Hedgehog was looking up at her and smiling. "Hi, Rouge!" The sweet little boy said, his eyes hopeful. "Do you want to color with me?" Rouge looked at Shadow, who was still talking with Maria, then back at Silver. "Sure, cutie", she said, forcing a smile. Silver squealed with happiness as he hugged the ivory bat, and held her hand as they both ran across the ARK to color in a peaceful room.
