"Excuse me? Sorry, you're going to have to step out for a second while we do some procedures. I will come get you once it's over." A lady speaks, I'm assuming not to me.
"Okay" There's a male with a nasty sounding voice, almost as if he hadn't slept in years and he has the flu.
I hear his feet drag across the floor as he leaves, then I hear clicks of the woman's shoes as she drags a cart near me.
"Joseph? Wake up for a second" She slightly taps my arm.
I sit up and look around.
"You're at the hospital" She tells me.
"Why?" I ask.
"You overdosed. A nice young man brought you in and you're lucky he found you when he did." She says.
I don't need her to finish the sentence because I already know what would've happened.
Why did I do that? There was no reason. I'm fine, I don't hate my life. Joseph what the fuck.
"We need to check your blood and pulse. We also need to check and make sure the doctors flushed all the drugs out" She says, putting gloves on.
"Drugs? I'm pretty sure it was just pain medicine..." I think back to the bottle and I remember reading over the label over and over. I'm sure it was Austin's pain medicine.
"What the doctors found was not pain medicine. I think you still might be having some of the effects from the drugs. You can go back to sleep once we're done." She says, another lady walking in with a tray of food.
"You have to eat something before we take your blood" The other lady says.
I grab the piece of bread and take bites out of it while the first lady puts the pulse bag thingy on my arm.
"Someone will also be coming in to talk to you about your health." The second lady says, setting the tray on the table next to me.
"What?" I ask.
"He's a mental health doctor. Just wants to ask you a few questions." She says, putting gloves on her hands as well.
Mental health doctor?
Oh my god. They must think I'm suicidal or something!
"I'm not suicidal" I tell the ladies.
"There must've been a reason for your overdose, that's what the doctor will find out" The second lady speaks as she starts getting the needles ready.
"No-but its not that serious. I'm fine" I tell them, frantically looking back and forth between the two.
"Your pulse says differently. You have an unexpectedly high pulse from someone who just woke up. I'm going to give the results to the desk." She talks to the second lady as she walks out.
"Okay Joseph. I'm going to draw some blood now. Are you afraid of needles?" She asks.
"No" I say, holding out my arm.
She grabs my arm and holds it at the wrist. She doesn't move for a while, probably shocked by the scars. This whole situation is going to be a huge misunderstanding.
"Those are old. Almost a year ago" I tell her, looking at her face.
She shows me a small smile before wiping a part of my arm with a wipe. She uncaps the needle and hold it above my arm.
"Okay deep breath. Don't tense your arm" she says.
I nod at her and breathe. When the needle is in, she starts to draw blood.
