"...And then we held hands."

Jasmine rolled her eyes as the girls on her table gushed in unison. Might she also add that those 'girls' were her best friends, the only people who didn't bother picking at her self consciousness when it came to eating.
She stabbed at a soggy piece of broccoli with a sort of apathy, distancing herself from the girly chatters that surrounded her.

"I knew things would work out between the two of you," Phoebe swooned as she playfully nudged Aadya in the ribs, "Always listen to me."

"There goes our sweet child," Patricia leaned into the conversation, "Off on a scary journey down the road of adulthood."

This was one of those moments when Jasmine exchanged mini sighs with Hilda Jones across the table. This was their only means of communication since the very day Phoebe had invited her to sit with them. She wondered how Hilda could hear everything, since her ears were constantly occupied with music twenty-four seven, her silvery bob cut concealing half her face.

The vegetable now lay flat under Jasmine's fork, somewhat resembling a sickly green acacia tree plowed with fork marks.

"Goodness Jasmine," Patricia snatched the fork from her hands, "You've vanquished the poor thing enough!"

"What? The broccoli?"

"Yes." Patricia nodded in answer as she chucked the fork into a nearby bin.

"That was my fork-"

"-And it's in the bin."

Jasmine groaned as she blankly premeditated her revenge on Patricia. Her fork was long gone and on its way to incineration along with a hunk of half eaten bananas and chocolate wrappers.
All that remained on her tray was a sad, squashed broccoli, destined for the same fate as the plastic fork...unless someone ate it.

Jasmine squeamishly picked the vegetable with two fingers and tossed it onto Patricia's tray of mashed potatoes.

"Have fun." A sadistic smile crawled onto her face as she watched Patricia wrinkle her nose in disgust.

A shuddering echo reverberated through the cafeteria as the two large entrance doors swung open. In stepped Heath Parker with his tousled blond hair, followed by Hannah Bailey, one of Arden High's most athletic Queen bitches.

Everything went dead silent as the two crossed the cafeteria.

"You're such a self-absorbed, cynical piece of crap!" Hannah shouted, "Can't you for once care about someone besides yourself?"

Heath shrugged curtly as he nonchalantly made his way towards his friends, pulled out a chair and sat in it in the most fluent way possible.

Tears welled in the cheerleader's eyes as she turned on her heels and stormed out of the room.

Patricia snorted as she whispered into Jasmine's ear. "Well this is interesting." She popped a grape into her mouth and leaned back in amusement.

"Hannah-" Patricia snorted discretely as Ricky Gillard, Hannah's 'lead fanboy' and iconic failure of the football team began in a love-struck voice. But his words were cut short with the echoing slam of the cafeteria doors.
