T W E N T Y T W O - The name Parker
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So you slipped on water and landed on your bum-"
Jasmine turned abruptly in her seat, her face flaming red. "With the entire school watching!"
To Jasmine's frustration, Patricia didn't seem to be showing any concern for the matter.
"What? You're just going to sit there?"
Patricia sighed and shook her head, sharply turning into another road. "I have to drive." She tapped her forefinger repetitively on the steering wheel. Then, after a moment of silence, "At least you weren't wearing a skirt or something."
Jasmine shuddered at the thought of Heath Parker catching glimpses of her certain 'no-no-zones.' "Yeah... that would have been bad."
The car stopped and when Jasmine looked out the window, she saw that they had pulled up at Patricia's house; a massive, white two-story house with a slanted ceiling. Patricia's parents called it a 'unique design'.
"You know what, Jasmine?" Patricia said, reassuringly patting Jasmine on the shoulder. "We all have bad days, but yours was even worse."
"Are you trying to make me feel bad?" Jasmine snapped, glaring with so much malice that someone's head could have been sent flying out the window. But this was Patricia she was talking to.
"No... I'm just saying that it's unfair," Patricia replied lightly, "wouldn't God be merciful and give you better days in return?"
Jasmine knitted her brows in thought. That concept didn't sound too terrible. After all, no god in the skies (if they really cared about their people) would let one of their beloved children experience an extremely bad day without giving them a good one in return. There always had to be a rainbow after the storm.
"Anyway," Patricia said suddenly. " Now that you're here, would you like to have dinner with us?"
~*~*~
Both Patricia's parents were well-respected lawyers, and so were their grandparents, great grandparents, and great, great grandparents.
And being rich, respectable people who moved around as a family to keep their respective positions in the society, it was required of them to have dinner at the most exquisite restaurants at least once in a fortnight.
...Not that it was bad. Jasmine had been invited to nearly half of the dinners and Patricia's mum had grown fond of her. As for Patricia's father, his dislike for Jasmine evaporated as soon as he met Jasmine's father.
"How are you enjoying the meal, sweetheart?" Patricia's mum, Brietta, leaned towards her from across the dinner table. "Do you like it?"
"Yes, yes." Jasmine cleared her throat, setting her fork down and reaching for a spoon. "It's very tasty..."
"Oh good! I was worried it didn't suit you, darl." She adjusted her necklace, a beautiful blue jewel dangling from silver chains. "Have you seen my necklace, Jasmine? Patricia picked it out for me...how does it look?"
"...very beautiful," Jasmine smiled. "It suits your dress very well."
Patricia's mum gushed and brushed down her dress with pride; the silky blue fabric shimmered under the lights like a silver ocean."Thank you, Jasmine." She breathed, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Patricia picked this one out for me as well! She's such a darling... always looking out for her mother-"
