E I G H T E E N - Jasmine Effing Winters

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The next few days of school weren't as terrible as Jasmine expected them to be. The excitement of Annica's party died down eventually, and everyone went back to whatever matters concerned them in life.

Jasmine returned to her usual lunch table, and Edward greeted her with bone-crushing hugs whenever they bumped shoulders in the corridors.
She also discovered that Elaine apparated to her side less often...which was relieving, considering the fact that Jasmine didn't need to be pestered around doing whatever the Queen Bee wanted.

But in exchange for that, Jasmine found that eyes began following her- lots of eyes. They bombarded her with inquisitive stares whenever she turned a corridor, monitoring the way she walked, or the way she smiled when waving her friends 'hello'. And stranger, plenty of those eyes seemed to follow a specific routine, or so she observed: Studying her face, inspecting it with wide, disbelieving eyes before sweeping her over from head to toe.
She hated to think so, but sometimes, it felt as though they were inspecting her like she was a piece of mouth-watering cake-studying her in places that were not to be stared at.

By the end of the week, her legs had sped up significantly, pacing the school grounds until she ended up in a more less-populated area. Then, after assuring herself that the hallways were nearly empty of people, she would run to class.

But nothing got better in the classroom.

The moment she walked in, her teachers would be waiting at the door with hungry, malicious eyes, readying themselves to devour her soul and vomit it into the pits of hell, also known as 'after-school detention'. They would question her continuously, clawing at even the slightest hint of guilt in whatever Jasmine told them. But they eventually gave in to her rather convincing excuses and let her off the hook.

Then when she took her seat, a room full of eyes all turned to her, quietly starting their routine of staring. Whispers would begin from the other side of the room, and Jasmine would have to pretend like nothing was happening.

"I don't think you've understood, Miss Winters." Ms Applegate glowered at her from a condescending angle."I am left with no choice but to put you in detention!"

Jasmine hung her head, muttering a silent curse. She had known her English teacher's head was too thick to make room for a forgiving personality, yet she hadn't thought the consequences through. In this case, there was only one way out."Please excuse me, Ms Applegate. I, by all means, deserve detention..."

"Of course you do," Her teacher straightened herself, staring down at Jasmine like a crow. "I am not a big fan of tardiness."

"I am a bad, bad student." Jasmine continued. "I am ashamed of myself."

"Well, yes, you should be-"

"But if I were honest, I, as a student, would learn my lesson with another terrible punishment."

Ms Applegate raised an arrogant eyebrow, but there was, no doubt, a sparkle of sadism in her eyes. "Hmf. Indeed?"

"Yes, Ms Applegate."

"-And that would be?"

Jasmine pulled out a phone from the left pocket of her jacket and with trembling fingers, handed it to Ms Applegate.

The English teacher eyed the phone as if it were an abomination and snatched it from Jasmine's hands, her face contorting to form an expression of pure evil. "You may go back to class, Miss Winters." She kept her voice cold. "And I will lock this in my drawer until you come up to my desk and ask for it."-In other words, bend both knees and plead.
