Abel

Me and Kaia walk hand-in-hand around the dark streets of Paris.

Kaia shivers and I pull her closer to me, wrapping my arm around her shoulders before kissing her cheek.

"Thank you for putting up with all my bullshit, baby," I say softly, feeling a pang of guilt at all the horrible things I've put her through.

Kaia twists her neck to look at me and studies my face. She stops walking and hugs me. "I love you, Abel," she starts to tell me, smiling up at me as she runs her hand up and down my cheek.

No she doesn't, the voice in my head says.

I block out the voice and smile down at Kaia. "I love you, too," I tell her, cupping her face and leaning forwards to brush my lips against hers.

How can you love someone that cheated on you?

Again, I block out the voice.

"Abe, you okay?" Kaia asks, eyes full of concern.

"Hmm? Yeah, I'm fine," I say but Kaia just looks at me weirdly. "I said I'm fine, Kaia." I laugh just to make it seem like I'm okay and she smiles and pecks my lips.

I take her hand in mine and lead her down the street towards the place I'm taking her.

Kaia lets out a little gasp as she takes in the sight of the lit Eiffel Tower. "Wow," she breathes, looking up at it. "It's so beautiful."

"Like you," I say, admiring her side profile.

Kaia looks at me and squints. "Are you comparing me to some ancient building, Abel?" she asks, arching an eyebrow.

"Shit! No!" I exclaim. "I mean, you're beautiful, not like the building, but, you know."

Kaia chuckles. "Yeah, yeah, I know," she says with a roll of her eyes.

"Hmm, are you showing me attitude?" I ask, moving closer to her to bite at her earlobe gently.

Kaia sighs and twists neck to look me in the eye. "Maybe," she says, eyes glistening.

I chuckle and place my hands on her waist. "Want to go to the top?" I ask, nodding towards the Eiffle Tower.

"So you can throw me off it?" Kaia jokes with a smirk. "No thanks." I narrow my eyes and she sighs. "Too far?" I nod and she pecks my lips. "Sorry, baby. You know I didn't mean it."

Didn't she?

Why would she?, I think to myself.

Because she hates you, the voice tells me.

I look at Kaia now, eyes trailing down her face as she looks up at the Eiffel Tower.

She doesn't hate me, does she? She's not lying when she tells me that she loves me, is she?

I wish I could get inside that head of hers, know what she's thinking, how she really feels about me.

"Abel? Abel!" Kaia says now,  snapping her fingers in front of my face.

"Yeah,  baby?" I say.
