"You can hope for the best and plan for the worst if lighting doesn't strike you first, who knows what's going to happen in the end. I just work like its all up to me and pray like its all up to him. At the end of the day when I've done all I can I drop to my knees and leave it all in his hands." -Tracy Lawrence, Up to Him

"What do you mean you quit? Luke, you've been here for two years why the sudden change?" I ask pacing the are behind my desk in front of where he sits. "Did something happen? While I was off?"
He shakes his head and runs his fingers through his messy hair. "No, nothing happened. Look Lydia, this has always been a temporary place, somewhere for me to get practice and a first major job. I just feel like now, I'm being told to move on to somewhere new."
I sigh and nod, "Okay. I can understand that, I can send your last pay check at the end of the week." He nods and stands up turning to the door. "Luke, thanks for working for me. I hope you find what you're looking for."
I groan and slide into my chair after he walks out the door. Muttering under my breath I put my hands over my face, for a moment before turning my attention back to the work at hand. Now that Luke quit I will be the sole physical therapist, and head psychologist. Kim, and Sage are still working for me which makes that area easier. I sort through the papers and am scanning over a list of patient progress reports when a knock sounds on the door. I look up when I see Trent standing in the doorway. "Hey, Trent how you doing?" He just walks in closing the door behind him and slides down against the wall. I set the papers down and walk over to where he's sitting and slide down against my desk in front of him. "Trent what happened?" He stares at the ground and I hear a scratching sound at the door. I stand opening it, and step out of the way as Toledo comes in and sits next to his master. I watch carefully as the dog rests his head in Trents lap and licks at his hands. A few moments later I see Trent swallow and he looks up at me.
"Ashley's in the hospital. Her blood pressure and heart rate is all over the place, and just when it starts to even out it shoots up or down again. She's had problems with it for a long time but, it's different now. She's pregnant and the doctors don't know if they can save the baby." He lets out a ragged breath. "They said the change is stressing the babies body, just as much as it is Ashleys.... What am I supposed to do? I can't help her. If I lose her I don't think I could survive. But this baby, we've wanted this for so long and they told us it wouldn't happen." He shakes his head looking more lost then I've seen him in a long time. Toledo, climbs in his lap and starts whimpering and licking his face and rubbing against him.
"Does she know you left?'" He nods in response.
"She told me I had to come talk to you if I wanted to be let back in later. I can't leave her alone, she needs my help but I can't help her like this."
"Trent, honestly it's up to the doctors and God. Pray and ask for his guidance, I know it may seem futile but it may be exactly what is needed to heal her and the baby." I shift my position and sit crisscross. "Talk to her too. If you tell her how you're worried and want to help her she may tell you the best way you can do that. I know how it feels to be scared like this Trent, my fiance was MIA for nearly three years. All I could do was hope and pray that he would come home, and be okay. I knew that even if he didn't it was all in God's plan, like everything else is. Pray about it Trent. Go spend time with her, she needs you either way." He nods and slowly pushes himself up off the ground, grimacing as he reaches a standing position.
"Yeah, okay. I just don't know if I can be strong enough for her. I can pray but how can I be strong enough if something happens?"
"You don't always have to be the strong one, it's allowed for you to be worried." I walk over to him and give him a hug, "Now go talk to a horse for a bit if you want. Then go back to her, and stay off your leg for a while." He gives me a small smile and hugs me back before walking out the door with his dog following after him. I watch after him and send up a silent prayer for his family. I walk out of my office and towards Whiskey's stall. Sliding the door open I step in and smile as the gelding turns to face me and sniffs at my pockets. "Hey boy, hows the handsome fella?"
"I'm flattered, really babe. I'm tired but okay." I jump as I see Tyler sitting in the corner of the stall grinning at me.
"I was talking to the horse." I say as I walk over to where he sits patting the horses flank as I go by. I sit next to him and reach over and squeeze his hand. "But I suppose it works for you too."
