XxXxXxXxX 4 months later XxXxXxXxXxX
I step back in Tyler and I's bedroom after rocking Aiden back to sleep, after a two o'clock am feeding. I move closer to the bed and notice Tylers face pulled tight and watch as he jerks in his sleep. I sit on my side of the bed next to him, watching for a moment to see if the night terror will pass. A low groan leaves his lips as he moves once again, and I lean over brushing my lips over his forehead. "Ty." I say quietly as I gently place my hand on his shoulder. "Tyler, wake up honey." I feel his hand latch around my wrist as he jerks awake sitting up in a flash. "Hey," I say shifting my hand so our fingers our linked. "You good?" He leans back against the headboard and lets out a long sigh, before pulling me to him, allowing me to lie against his bare chest.
"Yeah." I feel his lips against my temple. "Did I wake you up?"
I shake my head and look up at him, "No, Aiden did. He was hungry again, and wouldn't go back to sleep for forty minutes after he ate." I reach up tracing his jaw line with my fingers, feeling the tickle of the slight stubble that graces his jaw. "Are you really okay Tyler? I worry about you," I say watching his dark eyes. "You were doing better up until the last few months."
"i'm alright Dee. It's probably just stress related." He tells me, and I nod thinking along the same lines. "But if we're both up, and he's asleep...." Tyler wraps his arms around me rolling us so that we are laying flat on the mattress again, his mouth trailing kisses along my collar bone as he hovers above me. "I love you Lydia."
"I love you too Tyler." I whisper as his lips move closer to my own. Five seconds later, a low woof comes from next to the bed, and then Nugget, the newest member of the family leaps onto the bed. I start laughing as Tyler rolls off of me and groans throwing his hands up.
"Can't even love on my wife without interruption anymore." I grin at him, sitting up to scratch on the golden colored dog's ears. "I will remind you, that you brought him home. You did this to yourself." He scowls as me before swinging his legs over the edge of the bed, grabbing his prosthetic from where it leans against the wall.
"He also is trained to stay is guard until released. Unless you released him on your way back someone else did." He says as he moves towards the door. I pause looking at him and seeing his demeanor change to that of his army training. "Stay here," He pats his leg calling Nugget to his side, "The guns in the under bed safe, if I'm not back in ten minutes get it." His attentions turns back to Nugget, "Geh zum baby (go to the baby)." Nugget slinks out the bedroom door before Tyler and they disappear from view. I hear an excited bark echo down the hallway, and then Tylers voice. "What the hell are you doing here man? Its like four in the morning!" I climb out of bed and move down the hallway towards the low voices.
"Tyler? Whats going on?" I ask stepping into the kitchen behind him, resting my hand on his arm.
"Dee, this is Daniel. Who apparently thought sneaking in our house in the middle of the night was a good idea." I raise my eyebrow looking between the two men and down at Nugget who is happily wagging at the new mans feet. "Dan was one of my army buddies. He told me he'd be in town this week so I sent him the address, and he apparently decided the middle of the night was a good time to come by."
I look at the newcomer and see him crouching to pet Nugget, "And how exactly did you get in if I may ask? Tyler has this place locked up tighter than a freaking bank."
Tyler scoffs next to me, and the new man, Daniel, laughs. "Tyler hasn't changed that much since he left the army he's using some of the code numbers we communicated with as lock numbers. Plus Nugget here was trained with our unit and I know his commands, so I could handle him."
I raise my eyebrow at Tyler who glares at his friend. "Just lay on the damn couch and go to sleep. Actually, leave and come back tomorrow, you know after lunch. And I am so changing those codes. I don't need you sneaking into my house again." With that he turns around and walks down the hall towards Aiden's room. I follow after him calling Nugget after me.
"Tyler," He leans over the crib watching our son as he sleeps, his shoulders tense. "Ty, hey. It's alright."
"What if it wasn't him Dee? What if someone else figured out the codes and got in? If Nugget hadn't lept on the bed we wouldn't have known. Something could have happened..." He lets out a long shaky breath. "I didn't even know. Damn it! I'm supposed to protect you and our baby, and I would have failed."
"Tyler, just shut up for a minute." I say turning his face to me, seeing the pain in his eyes. "You knew right away that something wasn't right when Nugget came in. You moved to protect us that very second. Give yourself more credit. Nobody else is going to figure out the codes, I know them and still have a heck of a time getting it all matched up. Daniel knows you and how you think babe. If you want, change the codes thats fine. But don't you dare think you failed. You've done everything right and kept us safer than anything else. Now come one lets get back to bed and get some sleep." I grab his hand pulling him after me.
"I love you Dee." He tells me as he sits on the edge of the bed removing the prosthetic. "I'm sorry, for snapping I just..."
I press my lips to his. "I love you too. Now shut up, kiss me goodnight and get some sleep.
