Chapter 5
I Feel Like Tony Stark With All This Awesomeness
Abigail didn't seem to want to let go of me and Max when we were trying to leave for the airport a few days later. She had us both in her arms and held us close as tears leaked out of her eyes and streamed down her face. I didn't know why she was crying; it wasn't like we weren't going to call and talk with her for a year or something.
"I'm just going miss you two so much," she cried, crushing us to her. "I've gotten used to having you both in the house and it's going to be..."
"Mum," Max laughed, rubbing her back. He looked at me over the top of her head and rolled his eyes. I just laughed. "It's not like we're never going to see you again. And we'll call."
"But still," she said, sniffing. "You just be careful, alright? I mean, with everything you've told me happened last time...I don't want anything to happen to you!"
"We'll be careful," I promised.
"But..."
"Come on, Abigail," Maddox said, finally pulling her away from us. He, Dad, and Brielle had been watching the exchange between the three of us, trying to hold in their laughter. "Like Max said, it's not like you're not going to see them again."
"And if we find ourselves in London," I said, "we'll definitely come see you."
She nodded, dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief that Maddox handed her. I couldn't help but smile as Max grabbed my hand, rubbing his thumb in circles on the back of it. I looked up at him and it seemed like he could barely contain his laughter as we watched Maddox comforting Abigail.
A car similar to the one we'd rode in to Max's graduation pulled up in front of the house. And with it, Abigail started crying even more and somehow managed to pull me and Max back to her. She didn't hold us quite as long, though, since she then hugged Dad and Brielle.
"Well, I know you don't want to be late for your flight," she said tearfully.
I smiled at her. "I'll make Max call when we get to Boston, okay?" I said.
She laughed, dabbing her eyes again. "It sounds like a plan," she said.
After, of course, a few more hugs and kisses and getting the suitcases in the car, Dad, Brielle, Max, and I got in the car and started off for the airport.
It didn't take us long to get to the airport. When we pulled up alongside our jet, Max got out and looked up at it in awe.
"So this is the new jet," he said.
"Yep!" I said, smiling, as I started tugging him toward the stairs leading up inside. "I finally got Dad to give in and get one." I laughed. "But if we find this new treasure, I think we're going to buy a 747 next."
He laughed, shaking his head, as we went up the stairs.
After I showed him around the jet, we sat down in the seats to get ready for takeoff. Our pilot, Neil, came inside then and smiled down at me.
"Hey, Callie. We'll be leaving in a few minutes, so buckle up," he said. He looked at Max then, holding out a hand for him to shake. "And you must be Max." Neil winked at me then. "So this is the guy you were bouncing around in your seat because of on our way over here, huh?"
My face went completely red, but I just grinned. "Yep!" I said.
Neil laughed, shaking his head, and headed for the front.
