CHAPTER 1.

I'm Dylan, Dylan Best. My life is perfect, well was perfect, up until my parents were murdered. I think I must have locked myself in my room for a month. Everyone said it was an accident, but no - one accidentally causes an explosion in their lab. Everyone says they didn't read the label on one of the vials. That's bullshit. My parents weren't careless they were smart. They always knew what they were doing. At least that's what I thought. My parents kept me in the dark about a terrible secret that changed my life forever...

❆❆❆

I woke up thrashing, again. I dreamt of my parents, they warned me that something big was coming. I needed to be a leader, I needed to fight. I had been dreaming the same event since my parents died. Two years ago. It always end the same, my parents look at each other and walk away. I always scream but they never hear me. Then the pain begins. It takes over my entire body, like I'm being shot by millions of bullets at the same time. It's unbearable. I try to imagine I can't feel it but it's real, it's real pain. I wake up panting and sweating. I can't go back to sleep. This happens most of the time, when it does I stare at my wall and try not to think and if I do I think of happy memories with my parents. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if they saw me now, what would they say, what would they -

'BEEP...BEEP,' I slam my hand on the alarm clock and look at it, 7.00 it read. I get up and go get ready.

'Dylan!' I turn around to see my best friend racing towards me.

'Jude, what's wrong?' When Jude finally reaches me I see bags under his hazel brown eyes. His dark black hair, which is usually gelled up is a complete mess and he's grinning like an idiot. Must have been a party.

'Why didn't you turn up at the party last night? It was fuckin' epic!'

'Wasn't in the mood,' I say bluntly.

Jude and I have been friends since preschool, when I bet up some kid for taking his animal crackers. We have been inseparable since then.

He gives me a look and then just nods as we walk down the corridor to make it to our group. He understands what I'm still going through. After numerous times of trying to convince me to get me to go to a party he's failed every time. I know soon enough he's going to tell me to get over it, suck it up and get on with your life. I just don't think I can, they're the only family I have. I hear a noise and look up to see my friends. Our group includes Trevor a big fellow who loves his football, his girlfriend Alexandra who is a gossiping bitch, Nick who throws all the parties, Lucy the head cheerleader and Chelsea. Chelsea is my "supposed" girlfriend. She's a dumb bleach blonde who loves to party.

'Hey babe,' she says and gives me a sloppy kiss on my cheek.

'Hey,' I reply.

I grab a chair and sit down; Chelsea comes to sit on my lap just like always. That's what is really bad about Chelsea, besides being a total slut, she's so clingy. They all start talking about the party last night, when I start to zone out, Chelsea brings me back to reality.

'Why didn't you come to the party last night?' She says flirtatiously and then flips her hair over her shoulders.

'I wasn't in the mood.'

'Oh well, I'm sure we can have our own party later,' she whispers into my ear.

I nod just as the bell rings. She gives me a quick peck on the lips and walks off to her class. So do I.

My first class is Biology. I walk in and sit at my usual spot and wait for class to begin. The final bell rings just as the teacher walks in. I would never admit this to my friends, but I love to learn. It distracts me from all my problems. Of course Jude knows though. We are basically brothers; we can't keep secrets from each other. Mrs. Bryn begins writing something on the board when a girl stumbled into the room.

'May I help you?' Mrs. Bryn asked.

'Umm ... I'm here for biology,' the girl replied.

'Oh yes I was expecting you, class meet...' Mrs. Bryn quickly flipped through her notebook, '... Glaze.'

Glaze gives a small smile to the class and then looked back to Mrs. Bryn for some guidance.

'Take a seat next to Sydney near the front,' Mrs. Bryn said while dismissing her.

She walks over and Sydney introduces herself. They share a few words and she takes a seat beside her. She places all her textbooks next to her and begins copying from the board into her workbook. She has dark tanned skin and long, black, straight hair that's tied up into a high ponytail. Her dark brown cat eyes though draw all of the attention. They're so dark and mysterious yet they're so drawing. They make you wonder what's her story. She's beautiful, no, she's gorgeous and Glaze? Her name is weird but a good weird. Where does a name like Glaze come from? It's unique and different but it works.

'Mr. Best,'

I snap out of my daydream and face Mrs. Bryn. The look on her face shows she is not impressed. Her hand is tapping the wooden desk rapidly and one of her eyebrows is raised, asking if I am serious. As I look around the room I see everyone staring at me but the new girl. She's so fixated on completing what she is writing down she doesn't even look up. Wouldn't she look up just out of curiosity?

'Did you want to tell the class the answer to my question?'

Everyone in the class snickers. I don't reply, I just shrug my shoulders.

'Pay attention Mr. Best, next time I won't let you off that easy.' She gave me one last look and then returned to writing on the black board.

For the rest of lesson I kept my head down and never looked up. My mind was still going off though, wondering whom this mysterious girl? Why does she keep to herself so much? She's obviously is very pretty, why does she try to hide it? Being the persistent person I am, I made a promise to myself that I will not give up, I will know her and she will know me. I swear it.
