Chapter 10 - HIT THE RED BUTTON

I peered into the sinister, gloomy room to be greeted with complete darkness. I looked to my friends and saw hesitation written all over their faces. I shone my phone into the room and saw fragments of metal equipment and bubbling solutions. I aimed my pallid light at the wall and discovered a light switch. I stepped forward and turned on the switch. A blaring, white light flooded through the room, making everything visible. A loud gasp exploded from behind me, but I didn’t turn to see who it was, I was to enveloped in what was in front of me. A laboratory, but no normal laboratory. My parent’s secret laboratory.

‘What the FUCK is this ?’ I yelled, confused and pissed. My parents owned a secret lab and didn’t tell me ! I was told they died in a lab, but not this fuckin’ lab ! Glaze passed by me and glanced around the room. Her eyes prowled for information and her body lurked for the fixes to unanswered questions. She stopped walking when she reached a board full of post notes. She slowly tugged one off and started reading.

‘This makes no sense, come here.’ She stated. Jude and I stalked over to her and saw gibberish written on the post note. I gazed at all the post notes to see they were written with the same script. Realisation hit me that this was my Father’s writing. His writing always became illegible when he was in a rush or he had too much information to write down. I squinted my eyes and tried to decipher the words written on the notes. I interpreted the words strength, speed and senses. My mind churned with this newly found information, I didn’t understand anything written here, but it was helpful in an unusual way. I strolled over to the equipment and saw that the tools used here were quite peculiar. The liquids and solids here that also were used for testing were weird. What kind of lab was this ?

‘Dylan get your ass over here and look at this !’ I walked over to Jude to see Glaze seated at a desk trying to turn on a prehistoric computer. I watched as she played with the wires and buttons. I could see she was struggling and I decided I was going to be the one to stop this madness. As I was about to speak the words, the screen came to life and a video appeared.

‘Hello, This is Luke Best and if you’re watching this it means you are either going through my stuff which I suggest you stop or I’m dead.’ My Father stated blankly. I had stopped breathing, was this really happening ?

‘So congratulations whoever you are, you have discovered my life’s work. But whoever you are this is very important information and I was probably killed for this.’ He paused. ‘But I did nothing wrong. I discovered the evolution of human; we can advance into a better race. A race that have super senses, powers if you will. My wife and I have tested this serum and it truly works, we have -

I paused the video; my breaths were coming short and quick. I think I was having a panic attack. I clutched onto my chest and became breathless quickly. Glaze and Jude came towards me but I stepped back. I must have tripped backwards because I suddenly fell into a capsule of some sort. The door shut rapidly on me and I suddenly heard a click. I pushed on the door but it wouldn’t budge. I now had two problems. I looked through the glass of the door to see me two friends trying to pry the door open. My breaths became more like pants as I gasped for air. It seemed impossible. The echo of screams and yells rung through me ears.

‘HIT THE RED BUTTON.’ Someone roared. Unexpectedly a green gas filled the tiny pod. I banged my fists onto the window and my friends did the same. I couldn’t take it. I passed out.
