We were sitting in the living room and having our breakfast, things seemed to be fine, or at least I thought they did. We were eating something called poha and I did not really like the taste of it, but I decided to just gulp it in because I was hungry.
"This is shit," Akanksha grumbled.
"Yeah," I agreed, "why does it taste so weird?"
"No clue," Akanksha shrugged, disgusted.
"Its not that bad," Alyssa said.
"What would you rather have than this?" I asked Akanksha.
"I said it's not that bad," Alyssa repeated.
"And I was asking Akanksha?" I turned to her and made an its obvious kind of expression.
"Right, okay," she smiled, which seemed fake.
"I'd have anything but this," Akanksha rolled her eyes, "and this is not that bad? This is the worst," Akanksha said to Alyssa.
"I think this is bearable," Alyssa shrugged.
"Its not," Akanksha snapped.
I could feel the tension between the two rising and I glanced over at Nikhil, Urvi and Rahul who glared at me as a hint to not say anything between the two. I sat down quietly, trying to finish the poha.
"Now, what would you know about shit food?" Alyssa snapped at Akanksha.
"Well, I know this tastes like shit. Wow, sorry!" Akanksha replied, annoyed.
"Its food! You can't just say its shit!" Alyssa said in an irritated tone.
"If it tastes that bad then why not?!" Akanksha replied in the same tone, "you need to get rid of that stupid lets-count-our-blessings attitude!"
"Yeah? Its an insult. You do not insult food, that's all I know. Really? How about you get rid of your snobby, obnoxious self?" Alyssa replied.
"Fuck off, Alyssa! Don't ruin my mood in the morning," Akanksha tried to let it go.
"Whatever," Alyssa rolled her eyes and continued eating.
"Anyway, guys," Akanksha turned to all of us, "my birthday is close!" she squealed.
"Wow, that's great!" I replied, "Will I be around till then?"
"I think," Akanksha smiled, "I don't really know what to do this time,"
"Try not to waste food," Alyssa murmured and Nikhil chuckled.
"Alyssa, stop it," I said and Alyssa just blankly stared at me, I turned to Akanksha, "how old will you be?" I asked her.
"19!" she replied, "What do I do?" she asked.
"You threw the biggest party last time..." Urvi trailed off.
"I know, I wanna throw a much biger one this time," Akanksha replied.
"Bigger than the biggest?" Nikhil laughed.
"The hugessttt," Rahul teased.
"Shut up, guys!" Akanksha said, blushing, "you know I give the best parties, my dad loves doing that, doesn't he, Alyssa?" she asked Alyssa.
"Uh, sure," Alyssa replied, not really caring.
"I want to give a treat at a place where none of my friends have ever been, like it should be something new! Something exciting!" Akanksha exclaimed.
"Pav bhaji stall," Alyssa mumbled and Urvi almost choked on her tea.
"What?" Akanksha turned to Alyssa.
