I opened the door and let Nathan in. "You repainted the house?" "It was done six months ago." He looked down. "Oh!"
"Why are you here Nathan?" He sighed and we both took a seat on the couch. "I wanted to apologise Olivia. Not just for today, but for everything." I looked at him angrily. "You ignored me Nathan. We were best friends. We were inseparable and you forgot everything. Why? Because of a stupid crush?" His head snapped up as soon as I said that. "No Liv! I know that I haven't talked properly to you for a long time but that was not the reason. I promised you that I wouldn't let that affect our friendship and I kept that promise."
I laughed bitterly at his words. "How? By ignoring me?" He sighed again. "Olivia, we were drifting apart before you told me how you felt. We've had different friends since freshman year. You don't get along with my friends and I don't get along with yours." I rolled my eyes. "I hardly think you can call your acquaintances 'friends'." "That's not fair Liv. No matter how they are, they're still my friends but I get that you don't like them and that's fine. But this is exactly what I'm talking about. We have different lives at school and we don't fit into each other's." "So you forgot about me?" He shook his head. "I didn't forget about you. I just couldn't make time for you."
"I really am sorry Olivia. I know we won't go back to how we were but I can't not be friends with you anymore." He sounded so sincere that I couldn't deny. Moreover, I really missed him too. I needed him back in my life. "I feel the same way Nate. But I won't be able to forgive you this easily. So how about we start off as tutor and student?" He laughed, but agreed. "Tutor and student it is." I had really missed this. "So can we start today?" I raised my eyebrows. "I thought you had plans." He shook his head. "I'll postpone them. Anything for you." He smiled at me. I couldn't deny that I felt something when he said that but I decided to ignore it.
We were studying for about an hour now. "Are you getting this?" "Yeah. You teach better than Mr.K." I laughed. "That's because you pay attention to me. You don't have your groupies to distract you." Nathan was one of the most popular kids in our school. Being in the Soccer team had done a lot for him as it had for me. I was almost as popular as he was. "Thank you for doing this Liv. I hope we can continue this and maybe become friends again?" "We already are friends Nate." He grinned. "So can we go to school together tomorrow? I'll pick you up." I sighed. "I go to school with Madison. That's like our thing."
He looked disappointed. "Maybe we can hang out after school?" "I postponed the plans I had today to tomorrow. So I......" I smiled sadly. "That's okay. Maybe some other time." We both got up and the door opened. "Nathan? I feel like I haven't seen you in such a long time." My mom made her way towards us. "Hey Mrs.Scott. I know but I think you might see a lot more of me now." We smiled at each other as my mom nodded. "Well, you're always welcome here. You know that." "Thank you. I better go. Mom must be waiting." My mom came out of the kitchen with a tray of cookies. "Speaking of your mom, give these to Sophia for me."
Nathan went home and I went up to my room. It had been such a weird day. Would things be back to normal now? Would we hang out like old times? I didn't know what the next day was going to bring. But I was glad I had Nathan back in my life.
