It had been a week since I had heard about Nathan and Grace's break up and I was more confused about my feelings than ever. I knew that I really liked Jake and that I was happy with him but for some reason I was starting to feel attracted towards Nathan again. I had decided that I wouldn't make the mistake of confessing my feelings for him again and so I kept it to myself.
Nathan, from what I had heard, was not doing really good either. He had been sleeping around a lot and the news had spread like wildfire in our school which meant that his groupies had their hopes really high. I, on the other hand, was really upset about what he was doing. It was very unlike Nathan to do something like that, but I knew it was his way to get his mind off things. I had let it be for a week but I was going to have to talk to him soon.
I entered the school building with Madison by my side. I opened my locker to get my books and we headed towards History. It was the only class that all of us had together. I took my seat next to Jacob and greeted him with a kiss. We had changed our seats a few weeks back which was the only reason I liked History. Nathan had started hanging out with us more than his previous 'friends' which I was really happy with. I had Jake on my right and Madison on my left, who had Travis by her side. In front of us were Aiden, Nathan, Will and the seat usually occupied by Grace was now empty.
My eyes immediately roamed to the other side of the class where she was sitting, not talking to anyone. She had really kept to herself for an entire week. She had missed three soccer practices and even though I knew where she was coming from, Coach had advised me to talk to her as the captain and even as a friend. I was planning to do that after I had talked to Nathan. I just felt it would be better that way.
I walked towards Nathan after school got over and stood in front of him. "Come on." He furrowed his brows. "Where?" I pulled him towards his car and asked him to unlock it. "We're going to Hunter's Diner." So I made him drive us to the diner and I still hadn't told him why. We sat in our usual booth and I knew he was getting impatient. "Okay. We're here. Now can I please know what you want to talk about? I have other stuff to do Liv." I rolled my eyes. "Like what? Making your pick for tonight?" His eyes snapped up to meet mine as soon as I said that and a look of hurt crossed his face. "What is the supposed to mean?" I sighed. "Oh come on Nate! Did you really think I wouldn't notice? That I wouldn't find out?" His gaze moved to the ground. "Nathan", he avoided my eyes and so I softened my tone, "what are you doing?"
The waitress interrupted us and I rolled my eyes as she flirted with Nathan. His eyes found mine and I shook my head disappointedly. He quickly ordered for the both of us and the waitress left. "Don't look at me like that." This time I avoided his eyes. "Please Olivia. I can bear anybody looking at me like that but not you. Please." I sighed. "What do you expect me to do Nathan? Of course I'm disappointed in you." He rested his face in his palms as I waited for his reply. "I don't want to do this either Liv. But it takes my mind off the other things." The waitress interrupted us yet again and continued to flirt with Nathan shamelessly.
"Excuse me. I appreciate your service but we're kind of busy here. So can you please leave?" Nathan chuckled and the waitress glared at me before leaving. We ate in silence before I started talking again. "Nate, I know you're hurting but this is not the way to cope with it. This is not who you are Nathan Walker. You're so much better than this." His eyes bore into mine as he placed his hand on top of mine. "I know. I'll stop Olivia. I promise." I smiled at him. "That's all I want."
Our conversation was all I could think about on my way home. We drove in silence knowing that all we had to say had already been said. I bid him goodbye and got out of his car. My mom and dad were standing in the living room and I could see the back of the head of the person who was sitting on the couch. I walked towards them and a gasp slipped my lips when I saw who it was.
"Daniel!" He got up and I rushed into his open arms. As much as I hated my brother, it was always good to have him back home. "Hey Olly." "What are you doing here?" He let go of me and I pulled back. "We got an early Christmas break." I pouted. "But that's like a week before our break." He just laughed at me. "Olivia, before I forget, Jordan is home too. So I invited the Walkers over for dinner tomorrow." I grinned at my mom. "That's great."
I went up to my room and called Nathan. "Did your parents tell you?" I heard laughter on the other side. "Yeah. I can't believe our stupid brothers are back. Tomorrow's going to be fun. We have to get them back for last time." I snorted. "Our family dinners are never complete without a competition. Don't worry. We'll kick their asses this time." "I guess I'll see you tomorrow." I smiled to myself. "Yeah. See you then."
