"Anyone who came into contact with this reaction received a genetic mutation that strengthens us. We both have it, and so were the others there. Except Nyx and Sors, they're just trained assassins. Nyx has a power of illusions, I don't know why but they don't belong to Alastair."
Sighing at Kore's words, Alex shook her head and sat up, ignoring the twinge of pain it sent to where she was stabbed, "Why do I always get the fucked families?"
"Maybe it's your delightful attitude," Wanda muttered and Alex beamed,
"Was that sarcasm from the Grinch?"
"I don't celebrate Christmas."
"And neither does the Grinch. Boom." Alex mimed a mic-drop and Wanda scowled. Grinning back, Alex stood and stretched,
"I'm going to check on Pietro, can you patch up Kore for me?"
"He's my brother."
"And I'm team captain."
"If this was a team, I'd never vote for you."
"Dictators don't need votes." Alex vanished through the door, weaving her way through corridors till she reached Pietro's bed.
"Leave Wanda alone."
"You could hear us?"
"I could hear you. You're too loud."
"I can be louder." Alex snapped back, but the remark didn't quite have the effect she intended. Pietro looked her up and down, smirking,
"I'd like to see that."
"Oh shut up." She shoved his shoulder, trying for something friendly until he grabbed her hand and yanked her forwards, onto his lap.
"Why did you kiss me?"
"It was an accident." Alex's ears burnt but she couldn't back down. She teleported slightly, so she was sat properly on Pietro's lap, facing him with her legs bracketing him.
"Of course." Alex shuffled slightly, trying to get more comfortable and Pietro let out a choked noise before composing himself, "How long are we safe here for?"
"Tonight, maybe less. Kore and Wanda are fine left here but you and I should split and move again."
"No."
"No?"
"I'm not leaving you anymore. Same for Wanda, same for Kore. We're a team."
The answer relieved her but she still had to warn him, "I could leave. I can't promise I won't again."
"And we'll find each other, like we always do. No matter where you are, what you've done, I won't stop running to you." He finished by laughing nervously. Alex bowed her head and leaned into Pietro, who did not hesitate to hug her. His hand rubbed her back, which although she knew was because he couldn't sit still without stimming, comforted her at the same time.
"You mean so much to me." She whispered in his ear, "I was terrified that I was going to lose you again before I got to explain."
