Alex clenched her fist a few times, testing the grip on the prosthetic. Tony had done a good job and she hoped he wouldn't notice it was gone before she returned it.
A gun, a weapon she rarely used and was not entirely comfortable aiming with, rested at her hip and she was wearing her old Vanisher suit complete with a wide number of knives.
"Come on," she whispered as she strode across the square, letting people take pictures of her, "Come and find me."
She made it up to the top of the Times Square steps and slowly lowered the hood of her suit. Then she lowered the mask covering her mouth.
A deep breath, steadying herself, then she carefully pulled the mask covering her eyes off. A megaphone teleported into her hands and she cleared her voice, making sure at least a few people were filming her before she spoke.
"Excuse me! Excuse me, my name is Ena Alessandra Esposito but most of you know me better as the Vanisher." To demonstrate it was the truth, she teleported into the crowd and back, "I'm here today to say something important"
More people were looking at her now and she was relieved to see more phones capturing her.
"My name is Ena Alessandra Esposito," she repeated, "And my brother is called Taio Alessandro Esposito. Yeah, our parents weren't too creative. But Taio, or Alastair, as he goes by now was a very creative boy. He is the one who gave me my powers."
Times Square was now incredibly full and Alex was beginning to feel slightly claustrophobic. She just wanted the attention so Alastair could find her and she could stop him before he did any more damage, but she hadn't thought so many people would turn up so soon. Alex lowered the megaphone and whispered to herself,
"No one is more powerful than a confident woman, remember? That's what mama always said." She raised the megaphone again, "I didn't know all of this until yesterday when I returned to my actual mother and found that my brother had been disguising himself as a friend of mine called Alessandro. He'd been following me for a month, probably longer, and I made a series of mistakes that led me right into his arms."
A murmur spread through the crowd, some people shouting and shoving to get close. Nearly everyone had phones pointing at her now and Alex forced a smile,
"Now onto the important stuff. A brief history about me is that I was born in southern Italy to an Italian father and Taiwanese mother. They shouldn't be able to have children, technically my brother is just a half brother, but then I was born. I was a miracle...except not really."
People were moving up the steps and with a flick of her hand, she moved them back into the crowd.
"I was born with mutated genes that made me stronger than the normal human, and there are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands like me. My brother was part of a company that wanted to hunt us down. They called us Panfortis and experimented on us till we could achieve incredible things, powers like teleporting. I haven't met anyone like me, but I want to. And I want to meet my brother again."
Her eyes scanned the crowd as she made sure no Avengers were turning up. Despite what Theundruk had said about her needing to go back to them, she couldn't until she'd spoken to Pietro and got him somewhere safe.
"I don't know how this thing works yet, which is another reason why I want to meet others. So, if you were in Southern Italy nearly—"
"Excuse me." A tall figure cut like a knife through the crowd. They were dressed in a far too extravagant green dress with a train that trailed behind them and seemed to shimmer with energy. Alex couldn't take her eyes off them, distracted by the strangeness of the character.
She was so bewitched that she missed the shield being thrown at her.
A blue blur knocked her to the ground and Alex heard gunshots.
Pietro rubbed his bleeding nose with the back of his hand before offering the same hand to Alex. She waited a moment, trying to tell what he was thinking and he managed to give her a small smile,
"Let's fight."
