Flashes of light, people pressing in around her. Alex did not tremble as she marched past them all, her chin jutted up in the scared but resilient way she had practiced for months.

She felt a hand, Clint's hand, on her shoulder, giving her a push forward as more questions were hurled at her.

"Vanisher, how does it feel to be an Avenger?"

"Vanisher, what is your real name?"

"Vanisher, is it true that Black Widow tried to kill you?"

"Come on, Vanisher, take off the mask. Or show—"Alex turned to see how far she'd walked, and had the pleasure of seeing Natasha spin around and kick the man in the throat before he could finish. Clint gripped her shoulders and pushed her forward into Steve, who wrapped a protective arm around her.

They made it through the doors to Stark Tower, rubble and alien bodies everywhere, and Steve guided Alex to a chair.

"How are you, Alessandra?"

"Alex, please." The fourteen-year-old superhero dragged her feet across the floor, marking a 'V' in the dust, "It's just loud. I don't like it."

"I don't like it either. Back when I was...well, a cheap Captain America, I had to do a lot of press stuff. Part of me liked it, part of me knew I was a complete hypocrite."

"I don't know that word."

"Well...it's...you should learn English."

"You should learn to suck my dick."

"Language!"

Alex burst into laughter, smacking her hands on her legs at the indignation in Steve's voice. He let her laugh, still crouched in front of her. When Alex quietened and let her gaze linger on him, he dramatically pouted and shook a finger in her face, sending her off again.

"You need to watch your language." Steve repeated, smiling kindly, "Kids shouldn't swear."

"Get off my balls and cling to your own cock."

"Alessandra!"

"It sounds better in Italian but I thought you'd appreciate me speaking your dumb language."

"Oh my god, I need to keep you away from Stark."

Alex woke up laughing.

The tears in her eyes were quickly dried by the cold floor and the reality of what was happening.

She was not an Avenger, she was not at home.

She wasn't even sure if she was alive at this point.

The cell door opened with a loud buzz but Alex was too drowsy to lift her head far enough off the ground to see who it was.

Alastair crouched down next to her and smoothed her hair back from her forehead.

"Morning, Alex."

"Don't call me that. Or anything." She muttered.
