Chapter 40 ~ Reliving The Pain

Evan POV

I had just stepped off the plane with my parents and sister Amelia in New Orleans. The trial would begin tomorrow and I knew it was going to be a rough week. It had been over two weeks since I last saw Cad and I wasn't sure how that was going to go. I had made a mistake and if I could go back and erase it I would.

"Do you think Cad will let us see the twins?" Amelia asked looking a little worried.

My mother's phone rang. She looked down and answered it.

"I'm sure Cad will although she is at work, I'm sure Lilly or Ben are at home."

My mother turned to me. "That was Lilly. She said we are welcomed to come and see the girls. Cad is working so she won't be there for some time," she said looking at me.

I had told her what happened and let's just say she was furious about my actions. My father was also still pissed as he reminded me over and over again that she was the best thing that ever happened to me and that it would be hard to find another woman like her. It was amazing how everyone took her side over me. I know I wasn't perfect and she wasn't either.

We dropped our things off at the house that Cad refused to live in, so I had ownership transferred over. I had plan to do some work to it and just have it when I was in town at the studio and with the girls. The driver took us to Uptown to Lilly's mansion. We were ushered through and her butler Harrison let us in.

"I'm so happy you all made it safely," Lilly said hugging everyone. For some reason Lilly and my mother seemed to have hit it off and I knew they spoke a few times a week. I was sure that Cadence had probably told her what transpired the last time I was here.

We walked into the parlor and Lilly opened the pocket door to reveal a huge playroom. Ben was on the floor while the girls were playing on their tummies. Lilly had them dressed in pink and white dresses and bonnets on their heads. They also had little white socks and pink satin shoes that looked to be really expensive. Now I could see why Cadence didn't want anything from me.

Lilly grabbed Eva and told her that daddy was here. She brought Eva and the same hazel eyes that I owned stared back at me.

"Hey baby girl. Did daddy's baby miss him?" I asked and she cooed. I gave her a hug as she smelt like fresh powder and sweetness. My mother was holding Lil kissing her making her laugh. I could see my sister playing with Lil so I switched. Lil cried some as I held her but she settled down once I started talking to her.

Lilly and Ben watched from a distance as my sister and mom asked all kinds of questions about them. My dad took pictures as I kept my eye on the door hoping Cad wouldn't flip out.

Lilly provided lunch while Amelia and my mom held the girls. Once dessert was eaten, Ben asked me to his office. I followed him as he took me down a flight of stairs and through two huge doors.

"Have a seat. Would you like something to drink?" He asked taking a seat behind the desk. I felt like a child sitting in front of the principal. Ben was not only tall but buff for an older gentlemen.

"Look Evan, I am not going to lecture you. You have been through a lot. Although I did not lose my memory, I know how hard it is to live two separate lives and be two different people in one body. I know it gets lonely and confusing and I am more than sure what you are going through isn't easy."

"It's not."

"I'm sure son. Look I don't know what happened between you and Cadence a few weeks ago but whatever you did has hurt her to the core. I've never seen her so angry and miserable in my life and I don't like to see the people that I cherish most in this world hurt."
