Cadence POV

It had been two days since the Judge recessed. Marquis had told everyone that the evidence was missing and sure enough it was. Somehow Ben had made a copy of the evidence and the court was reviewing it to make sure it wasn't altered. Our attorney was suppose to call today and let us know.

I walked into the office that had almost become my second home for a while. I checked in with Sara and waited to be call back.

"Dr. Sims is ready to see you," she said as I grabbed my things. I opened the door and walked in.

"Cadence, it's good to see you," she said taking off her glasses.

"I'm glad you were able to see me on such short notice."

"I know that the trial is in progress and it could be a lot to handle."

"It is and the dreams are back. They frighten me to the point that I don't want to close my eyes."

"What are they about?"

"It's a mixture of three dreams that won't go away."

"Okay, tell me about them."

"The dream starts off the night that Evan and I got shot. I see myself as the shooting is taking place. As I am standing there my mind wonders on what I could have done differently and every time I do something different, I get the same result. No matter how hard I try, Evan and I both wind up shot."

"That's telling you that this was meant to happen. Unfortunately it did happen, but there is a reason behind it."

"So you are saying that this accident was suppose to screw my happy life up?"

"I'm not saying that Cadence. What I am saying is that terrible things happen to good people. We have to make adjustments in our lives and things, people change. Sometimes we get to see what a person is really like after a tragedy. What are the other dreams?"

"The night that... the night I had to call you over for Evan."

"Yes, the night that you called me as I could see fear in your eyes that you try to mask."

I looked at her as a lone tear fell from my eye. I quickly wiped it away. I didn't want to talk about that night as my stomach started to twist up in knots.

"What happened Cadence? It's only you and me in this office. No one will hurt you, I promise."

I gripped by bottom lip with my teeth. Just to think about that night made me shiver. I looked out the window as the sun rays bounced off her crystal vase.

"Cadence..."

"Evan has never physically or mentally abused me. Evan has always been a gentlemen and cared about my feelings. I fell in love with him because he has a good heart. That day he and Jacob got into an altercation, because pieces of his memory came back almost like déjà vu. He saw me in Jacob's office. Jacob had been looking for houses for me."

I took a deep breath.

"Things just got out of hand. Jacob held him down and told him to leave. I tried to get to Evan but he left. I gave Evan some time and I went to see him. I figured I needed to explain why I was with Jacob and that nothing was going on with him but he just blew up. Evan was drinking and things just turned."

"What did he do?"

I rubbed my hands together and told her all the gory details. I didn't realize I was trembling until she came and sat next to me and hugged me.

"Why did he do it? I tried to make things work, I wanted them to work. Is this my fault? For better or for worst, through sickness and in health, til death do us part , those were the vows I took and had expected to honor for the rest of my life. This is my punishment for the life I had lived."
