Cadence POV

It had been two days since I had last seen Evan. Today was the day I was being transferred out of ICU to my own room and today would be the first time I would see the girls.

The nurse came in with a wheelchair and helped me in it. There was still pain in my lower abdomen but I tried to get through it. I was driving myself crazy being so close to Evan and he still had no idea who I was. I would look up at the screen and all I would see was our children, the children he had no recollection of.

The nurse wheeled me out of the room and as soon as I got close to Evan's room, I felt another piece of my heart slowly dying. I took a deep breath as I got closer and closer. I closed my eyes praying no one would see me, that I would be just an invisible shadow.

"Cadence," I heard my name being called.

Shit, there goes my plan! I slowly opened to see Dorothy walking down the hall. She was headed towards Evan room with a bag and her purse.

She smiled at me as she got closer. The smile was mixed with apology and sadness.

"Hello Dorothy," I said with my hand under my chin.

"Are they moving you to another room?"

"Yes. I get to see the babies now."

"That's wonderful. I hear they are growing and doing much better. I know you can't wait to get to hold them. I can't wait to hold them too."

"It was not suppose to happen like this. I had imagined me giving birth with everyone I loved around with pink balloons, streamers everywhere and Evan by my side. That dream has turned into a nightmare. A nightmare I wake up to everyday. He doesn't know who I am Dorothy and he doesn't even know our children," I said as huge tears rolled down my face.

"I know sweetie but the doctors are hoping he will get his memory back. I see the love you have for him and you can't give up on that love. Somehow I feel you are the only one that can help him. I've never seen my son so happy except when he was with you. You were his world and those babies he just couldn't get enough of. He may not remember but you can't give up on him."

"It hurts my heart to know he has no idea who I am. I gave him everything I had and it seems useless now."

"Cadence I don't know what the future may hold but he needs you. Please don't give up on your love for one another."

I shook my head. It was easier said then done. I didn't want it to be a one way street and I end up without him.

"Can she have a few minutes to see her husband?" Dorothy asked the nurse.

"She has to be in x-ray in twenty minutes so go ahead."

Dorothy rolled me in the direction of Evan's room. My hands started to sweat even more as I got closer.

Evan was talking to the nurse as Dorothy wheeled me in. Evan's father was siting on the sofa and he got up and walked up to me and gave me hug.

"Hello sweetheart," he said with a smile on his face.

"Hello Mr. McCain."

He grabbed my hand and patted me on the shoulder. The nurse said hellos and goodbyes.

"I just checked his vitals and he is doing good," she said looking at me and Dorothy.

Dorothy continued to roll me in and Evan looked at the both of us.

"Hey," he said as his dad helped him to sit up.

"Hey," was all I could say.

"We are going to leave you two alone. Oh I brought this," Dorothy said pulling out a photo album.
