"hey, guk, did you do the homework?"

jeongguk looked up from his notes to see yugyeom grinning at him. he chuckled, flipping through his binder and pulling out the page of throughly answered questions in a messy script. he handed it to yugyeom, who eagerly thanked the ravenette and began copying down the answers.

jeongguk and yugyeom were friends, although by no means as close as he was with jimin and taehyung. they talked mainly at school, and their text conversations didn't go much farther than discussing homework or school drama. however, ever since the beginning of junior year, yugyeom had been pursuing jeongguk romantically. slightly embarrassed, the elder had had to politely turn yugyeom down and explain that he wasn't allowed to date, but would like to remain friends. yugyeom had understood, but that didn't stop the younger from being flirty and touchy with jeongguk.

finally the bell rang, and the students rushed to pack their things up so they could go home. yugyeom passed jeongguk back his homework, thanking him again and smiling widely. "oh, and i meant to ask you!" yugyeom called out just as jeongguk was steps from the door, the younger rushing up to walk with him. "bam's throwing a party this weekend, and he told me to invite people. you in?"

jeongguk bit his lip thoughtfully as he stopped at his locker. yugyeom leaned against the one beside him, waiting for his answer. "ah, i don't know, gyeom. i think i may have promised to help my brother with something on saturday, sorry," jeongguk lied, pouting apologetically.

yugyeom seemed to buy it and shrugged. "maybe next time?" he winked as he walked off to his own locker, leaving jeongguk to finish packing his books into his bag. after a minute he was on his way out of the school, popping his earbuds in as he began the walk home.

jeongguk felt bad, of course, for always having to make excuses and lie to yugyeom as to why he couldn't hang out, or attend a party. but he was too ashamed to tell him that his stepbrother kept him locked in the house like some modern day rapunzel.

he kicked some stones that were laying on the sidewalk, eyes trained at the ground. he hummed along to the tune playing in his ears, tapping his fingers on the straps of his backpack.

one minute he was walking, and the next he was on the ground.

"aish," he groaned in pain, slowly sitting up and rubbing at his head. his earphones had fallen out on impact, so now jeongguk could hear what was going on outside of his head. his knees felt like they were on fire, and upon looking down he realized both kneecaps were bleeding and littered with dirt and dust from the sidewalk. good day to wear ripped jeans, guk, he thought to himself.

"oh my god, i'm so sorry! i totally didn't see you there, i was just thinking and..." the person trailed off, and jeongguk couldn't help but think that the voice was familiar. he glanced up right into the eyes of the broad-shouldered beauty he'd encountered in his kitchen only three days ago. "jeongguk, how funny to run into you like this! not that it's funny that i knocked you down, but it's funny cause–"

jeongguk cut seokjin's rambling off with his hand. "relax, hyung. it was my fault, too. i wasn't looking where i was walking," he mumbled, trying to stand but the pain in his knees made him let out a cry and fall back down. jeez, he thought, i didn't think i fell that hard.

"oh, you're hurt! i'm so sorry, here, let me walk you home and clean you up," seokjin reached out and took one of the younger's arms and started to help him get back up. but jeongguk could only tightly clutch onto seokjin as his legs wobbled. "okay, so that's not gonna work. is it... is it okay if i carry you?" seokjin's voice was quiet, caring, and jeongguk felt his heart flutter with a thousand butterflies.

nervously the younger nodded and so first the brunette removed jeongguk's bookbag, slinging it around his own back. then seokjin placed his arms around jeongguk's neck and under his knees, swiftly picking him up bridal-style. he set off towards namjoon's house, trying not to have a heart attack at how cute jeongguk looked in his arms.

"so, you're still in high school?" seokjin asked, trying to make conversation.

jeongguk blushed, nodding. "i'm a senior, though," he felt the need to defend himself. he didn't want seokjin to look at him as a little kid. the things jeongguk wanted the beautiful man to do to him were quite mature, to say the least.

"what about you?" jeongguk asked, wanting to know more about the best friend his brother had kept hidden from him for years.

seokjin smiled, "i'm a culinary major, in my third year." he looked down at jeongguk for a second before continuing, "i'm actually 23, so most people my age are in their last year or graduated but i took time off after high school to work and travel a bit."

jeongguk swallowed at the news of seokjin's age. he was two years older than his brother, which he hadn't expected. if seokjin had been 21, then maybe a relationship between the two wouldn't be so odd. but to have a five year age gap...

"ah, here we are!" seokjin cheered upon turning into the driveway of jeongguk's house. the younger let out a sigh of relief when he didn't see his brother's car in the drive. "your brother's still at school, if that's what you're wondering. it's just you and i," seokjin beamed, not missing the nervous look on jeongguk's face.

he wanted to play a little with the boy, to see how far he could push himself before he broke and made jeongguk his.

because best friend's brother or not, seokjin thought, jeongguk will be mine.
