╚═ "bedtime story" ═══╝
it was barely seven o'clock, and seokjin was already a mess.
he'd taken jeongguk out for dinner since he didn't feel like cooking, and so there they were at a tiny little noodle place, in a booth by the window, avoiding eye contact while they slurped down spicy noodles.
the reason why he was a mess, was that jeongguk had only been under his care for less than two hours and seokjin had already had to excuse himself to the bathroom because he couldn't get the sinful image of jeongguk's lips out of his head.
oh god, how good would they look wrapped around my co–
"hyung?" jeongguk's quiet voice snapped seokjin out of his little fantasy. he looked at the younger, who'd long ago finished his noodles and was now staring at him curiously. "are you okay?"
"y-yeah," seokjin cursed himself for stuttering, "just thinking about a project i have to do. you um, ready to go?"
jeongguk nodded, and so seokjin abandoned his half empty bowl and led the younger to his truck. i just have to put the kid to bed and i can relax, seokjin reminded himself as he gripped the steering wheel.
during the whole ten minute ride back to the house, jeongguk watched amusedly as seokjin tried to hide how flustered he was. if he was being honest, he'd been trying the whole dinner to subtly turn the elder on, and if his suspicions were right, it had worked.
"so, jeongguk! what are you thinking of studying next year?" asked seokjin, desperately trying to make conversation in order to calm down.
"i'm not too sure yet," answered jeongguk honestly, pursing his lips.
seokjin gritted his teeth at the sight. does he have to do that? he thought, surely he knows how goddamn attractive he is.
"well," croaked seokjin, "i suppose you have plenty of time to decide."
soon, but not soon enough for seokjin, they arrived back at the house. seokjin quickly parked his truck and dashed inside, leaving jeongguk smiling after him.
➴
"hyung?"
seokjin turned his head from where he'd been typing on his laptop to see jeongguk, standing on the last step of the staircase, hands lazily rubbing at his sleepy eyes. he was wearing only a oversized white sweatshirt and the tiniest pair of baby blue pajama shorts, showcasing his gorgeous, muscled tan legs.
seokjin gulped down his arousal, "yes?" he glanced down at his laptop screen to check the time: 11:38 p.m. "why aren't you in bed?"
jeongguk pouted, "i can't sleep." he walked over to seokjin, flopping down on the couch next to the elder, resting his head on seokjin's arm. "whatcha workin' on?"
seokjin hummed, "a paper for school. why can't you sleep?" he blew a strand of hair out of his face as he glanced down at the tired younger on his arm.
"dunno."
"well, what does namjoon usually do when you can't sleep?"
jeongguk smiled. "he reads me a story."
seokjin stared at the younger. you have to be kidding me, he thought. "a-a story?"
"mhm," jeongguk nodded, standing up from the couch and grabbing onto seokjin's hand, tugging the elder up. "come on. i'll pick one out for you."
is jeongguk secretly five? seokjin wondered as he allowed himself to be pulled up the staircase. he was told to wait in jeongguk's room while the younger went and fetched a book in his brothers room. seokjin took this time to observe his surroundings.
jeongguk's room was an average size, the dark wood door was in the corner of the room and there was a large window just to the right of the big queen sized bed. the walls were a deep blue, the floors a plush white carpet. decorating the walls were numerous posters from famous bands and celebrities, some of which seokjin recognized, some he didn't. there was a desk to his left cluttered with textbooks and papers; a sleek white laptop was tucked in the corner. overall the room wasn't anything unusual, but it seemed to suit the charming eighteen year old.
"i'm back! you're gonna love this one, it puts me to sleep in under four minutes. namjoon hyung timed it once," jeongguk excitedly bounced into the bedroom, hand grasping a thick volume. seokjin took it from the boy, examining the cover and having to stifle a laugh.
jeongguk's "bedtime stories" were namjoon's philosophy textbooks.
shaking his head while smiling, seokjin took a seat on the edge of the comfortable bed while jeongguk snuggled under the white covers. the elder didn't flinch when he felt jeongguk rest his head on his arm, and just got himself comfortable while he focused on finding a boring enough chapter to lull the kid the sleep.
"...the mind which, in the exercise of the freedom peculiar to itself, supposes that no object is, of the existence of which it has even the slightest doubt, finds that, meanwhile, it must itself exist. and this point is likewise of the highest moment, for the mind is thus enabled easily to distinguish what pertains to itself, that is, to the intellectual nature, from what is to be referred to the body..."
jeongguk closed his eyes and let himself succumb to the sweet, calming sound of the elder's voice. he snuggled closer, fists bunched in his white sheets.
seokjin finished the passage a few minutes later, and sure enough, when he looked to his right the younger was fast asleep on his arm. soft snores fell from his parted lips, but it was more adorable than annoying. seokjin sighed, feeling tired himself. glad i didn't major in philosophy, he chuckled to himself. that's some heavy stuff.
not wanting to disturb jeongguk's slumber (and be faced with reading another chapter should the younger wake up) seokjin decided just to sleep there. he was already almost laying down, so he just shifted gently until his head was resting on the pillow and tugged the covers over his legs.
