CHAPTER THIRTEEN
'i'm right here'
-

"nance?"

nancy looked up from her notebook.

"oh, hi el! what do you need?"

"do you have, magazines?" she asked, arms behind her back.

"yeah! they're over there" she pointed at a box, before going back to write on her notebook.

el walked to the box, her hands ran through different magazines.

nancy looked back at el.

"hey, el?"

"mhm?" she hummed, not looking up.

"did you, you know, clear things up? with your butterfly issues?" she giggled.

el looked up, a blush forming on her cheeks. she smiled and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear as she thought about last night.

about that kiss, that damn kiss.

"el?" nancy raised her eyebrows, looking at the brunette girl who was biting her lip whilst she was lost in her thoughts.

el looked at her.

"uh- ejem. yeah. yeah. all good" she shyly said, fiddling with the ends of the magazines she had chosen.

"thank you for the magazines!" she said, quickly walking out of the room and closing the door behind her.

-

el rubbed her eyes and looked around her. it was night time, but she was incredibly thirsty. she sighed and uncovered herself from the thick blankets that wrapped her body.

she shivered at the touch of the cold wooden floor. she looked to her left and grabbed the first thing she found; ironically, mike's sweater.

she put it on and stood up. el walked out of her bedroom and made her way to the kitchen.

before getting to the stairs, a faint noise was heard from mike's room. she furrowed her eyebrows and placed her head on the door.

all she head were sniffles.

wait, mike was crying?

she panicked for a second, thinking what to do until she decided to slowly open the door.

it was dark, all she could see was mike in his bed.

"mike?" she whispered.

sniffle.

"no. stop. no!" mike started saying.

el walked quickly to the bed.

he was having a nightmare.

"no! let her go! el!" he shouted.

el sat down on the bed, next to him.

"mike"

"el! let her go!"

"mike"

"mike, wake up" she shook him.

mike suddenly sat up, breathing heavily, making el jump.

he looked frantically around him.

"mike" she said once more, placing her a hand on his.

mike looked at her.

"el"

"yes, i'm here. it was just a nightmare"

he looked at her for a second, she opened her arms to him and scooted closer to him.

mike quickly hugged her, burying his face on her shoulder. she placed her arms around her, her chin on his shoulder.

and suddenly he broke down– he started sobbing.

el squeezed him, her hand moving up and down his back.

he hanged onto her almost as if he was scared to let go, scared that she'd somehow disappear.

"i'm right here" she whispered.

"i'm right here" she buried her face on his shoulder.

a while later mike looked up.

their eyes met and she faintly smiled.

"you okay?" she asked softly.

mike slowly nodded.

"okay"

"can you stay?" he asked.

"uh- yeah. sure"

mike nodded.

el started shifting.

"wait"

she looked at him.

mike grabbed her from the waist, making her giggle and embraced her once more.

she sighed as she snuggled her face into his chest, warmth instantly filling her body.

"thank you" he whispered.

el looked up.

"why?" she furrowed her eyebrows.

"for being there" she grinned.
