chapter five

Scarlett's Pov

        I was awoken by the the loud banging and cracking coming from outside of the hideout. I screeched as it came again and jumped from my bed. 'I don't remember falling asleep here, Itachi must have brought me to bed.' I smiled at the thought but snapped out of it as another tremor ripped through the sky 'oh god I hate thunderstorms they scare me so bad.' The constant bangs and rumbles were enough to light up the world for me so I was able to find my way from my room and in to Deidara's. I walked over to his side of the room and lightly shook his figure.                        

        "Deidara wake up please. Please wake up you have to. I'm scared."

        "Scarlett what are you doing up its late go back to bed."

        "I can't its a thunderstorm." Just then another enormous ripple shot from the sky as if to prove my point.

        Deidara sat up in bed and lifted up the blankets so I could get under them, once I was comfortable he laid back down wrapping his arms around my waist, making me snuggle deeper into his chest and started to rub my back. "Shh its going to be all right Scar I won't let anything get to you."

        Deidara continued his movements for another minute. "What is on your back?" 

        "What?" I reached around myself putting my hand under my shirt to touch the skin with raised ridges all over it.  "Oh those are scars I have not yet gotten the chance to heal them. I have been saving all of my energy for running until you found me and you know how much energy it takes to heal myself, and time for that matter, I just did not have the luxury to take the chance."

        Deidara sat up against the wall and pulled me into his lap. "Scarlett what were you running from?"

        I did not want to see his face as I told the story so I leaned into his shoulder "Shortly after you left Mom and Dad were killed I was too scared to do anything so they beat me then took me away. I am not sure exactly what happened at that point, the people had drugged me and sold me into slavery. It was weird I did not know that, that kind of thing was still going on. The man who had bought me, Ryu- that was his name- had nursed me back to health. I thought he was a good person but he was not. Soon after he would come to my room late at night and ask for things, things that I was not willing to give I refused him and went to go back to bed once my  back was to him he threw something at me. My wings flew out before I had time to stop them and blocked it from hitting me. I must have scared Ryu because he had me flogged the very next morning. I never cared to look at the whip long enough to see what was on it, all I knew was it was cutting my back up really badly. A couple of the other house servants had taken a liking to me and had helped me with the pain and making sure the cuts were not going to get infected. I did not bother to waste the time or energy to heal them because I knew I had to keep my wings in and the only sure way of doing that was to leave the birth mark wings distorted, so I did.

        Many times Ryu came back for me but I would never give up the one thing I still had a slight bit of control over and that was my innocence so time after time I was flogged. After a couple of times I got to the point were I did not even cry out from the pain. A little while ago I caught wind that Ryu was going to bring someone into break me of the things I was doing, so with some help I ran away and that is when you found me." 

        Deidara reached up and dried my face with the corner of the sheet "Scarlett I am so sorry if I had known I would have taken you with me I just did not want you to get hurt but it seems more damage was done by me leaving you there I am so sorry."

        "It is ok Deidara I forgive you, just don't ever make me go back there again."

        "I would never. Now lets get back to sleep."

        With that I snuggled back into his chest and fell into a deep sleep.
