Darkness surrounded me.

An air conditioner hummed softly in the sill of my window.

The sweet sound of a familiar voice floated across my dark quarters.

"God I love your room Marcus".

Mmmmmmm............

The fog and slight pain in my head cleared slightly.

Visions of last night floated through my mind as I thought about my previous day...

Yesterday afternoon started at a little beach house that belonged to a friend. Some overhead right hand waves were breaking just out back.

Cocktails...

That ride downtown!

The pretty black bike had been lounging in the drive all day.
A slight chill was coming from the ocean, it pushed against my back.

The sleeping beauty was a 1000cc midnight black racing machine from top to bottom. The frame stood alone as the only original piece.

Last night all started when I lit the fuse on the black street bikes starter...

Electrical spark, racing fuel and cool beach air combusted pure adrenaline. The hungry four cylinder surged to life snarling a welcome tone from the twin pipes hugging the rear fender.

I lit a smoke and let my nerves settle.

The sky was growing darker, the lights above the street had come on. No time of day was more dangerous to be riding. Stir in some downtown traffic to the soup, and things gets real.

Leaning up against the warming monster behind me sent a chill up my spine as a slight breeze combed through the maple trees in front of the beach house.

I strapped the dark gray helmet to my skull, preparing for battle.

Gentle on the throttle, I eased into small town main Street traffic.
The racing machine was on loan which had my nerves on edge.

If pushed, the front tire was difficult to keep on the ground. It constantly caught me off guard in lower gears.

I slipped my way to an open on ramp. My lower body pressed against the back of the seat. I grabbed second gear and rolled onto the gas, front tire skipping.

A long sharp right corner lowered me on to a North bound flyway. I shoved down on the handle bars into the turn as I leaned over pushing the bike harder as pressure increased.

The black bike began to drift, instinctively I increased pressure on the right handle. The machine smoothly dipped back into the groove. The velocity increased again as I drifted out of the corner, front tire kissing asphalt until I shifted to third.

The world vibrated as I straitened out, a glance down showed 78 on the speedo coming out of that turn!

My confidence grew.

I released the rocket between my legs.

The bike floated along well over a hundred in the carpool lane. Wind Aerodynamics forced me to lean forward as the air pressed harder against me.

The warm wind felt perfect, a leak of cool oxygen pressing into my jacket. Heavy air pressure flapped and buzzed around me as the lights and reflectors zoomed by.

Traffic was non existent at the time. The sun had just set over the west coast leaving the evening sky a bright purple and dark blue from right to left.

Behind me a black coupe was dogging my side mirror. It was the same ride pacing me back on Main st. near the beach.

It was slowly gaining on me holding the center lane,..
