Toya POV
He never did mention the place our date was going to be. I was a little skeptical to be doing something like this, considering the fact that I am new to the dating thing...I looked over at him as the car glided smoothly down the highway, admiring his dark complexion. I looked at his jawline, his dark brown eyes, and his lips.
I never looked at a guy the way I was currently checking Rakim out, but I guess that's maybe because I never really had the opportunity to do so. Rakim was a mystery to me, and something told me I wanted to deeply solve him.
His smooth ways were enough too woo any female. I guess maybe that's why I was attracted to him. Something about him just got my attention.
I quickly saw that he took notice of me staring at him. I turned away and looked out the window.
Rakim: Like what you see, huh?
I blushed a little and gave him a half smile, feeling slightly embarrassed for getting caught.
He smirked back at me and snickered to himself as if my embarrassment was his entertainment.
Before I knew it, the car came to a halt and we were now at a restaurant called "West Winds."
I had never heard of such a restaurant before, but that was the name on the glowing sign that stood like a skyscraper alongside the brick building.
Rakim turned the car off and we both got out as he rushed to my side to escort me inside the restaurant.
As we walked he asked had I been here before.
Toya: No I haven't. Never even heard of it to be honest.
Rakim: Well then, I guess you're in for a surprise.
I smiled as he opened the door for me and walked us up to the hostess's desk.
Hostess: Table for two?
Rakim: Yes please, and if you don't mind, may we get a table outside on the terrace?
Hostess: No problem, sir. Follow me please.
Rakim walked beside me as we both followed the hostess towards the back of the restaurant approaching a glass door that lead to what I'm guessing was the outdoor terrace.
She took us the middle of the terrace which had a round table with a candle lightly flickering as the centerpiece.
Hostess: Will this table be fine?
Rakim looked at me for reassurance.
Toya: It's perfect. Thank you.
Hostess: You're welcome ma'am, your waitress will be right out with you.
And with that, the host walked away and Rakim sat across from me and sat his phone on the table.
Rakim: You have my undivided attention ma.
I blushed as I sat my purse in the side of my seat and began to stare into his eyes.
Rakim: If we are having a staring contest, let me know so I can get some blinks in real quick.
I laughed at his remark and blushed a little bit.
Toya: I honestly was just staring at you because...well I think you're cute.
Rakim: I figured so.
He popped his collar and licked his lips.
I laughed once again as I thought what to start the conversation off with.
Toya: So, do you plan to attend college?
Rakim: I mean, yeah I've thought about it, but I don't know yet. Right now, I'm just working and making money. I know you're gonna go to college, right?
Toya: Yep, I'm afraid my parents would have a meltdown if I didn't attend.
Rakim: So have you thought about a specific major or profession?
Toya: Yeah, I thought about social work or psychology. I want to help people.
Rakim: That's nice. One of my cousins does social work.
Before I could respond, our waitress arrived.
?: Hi, I'm Rebecca. I will be your waiter for tonight. Are you guys ready to order your drinks?
Rakim: I'll have mango lemonade.
Toya: Water will be fine for me, thank you.
Rebecca: No problem, are you guys ready to order?
Rakim: No, we need a second please.
Rebecca: Okay, take your time. I will be back shortly with your beverages.
Rakim: I think I'm gonna order a ribeye steak with a baked potato and steamed broccoli. What do you want baby girl?
Toya: Hmm, what do you recommend?
Rakim: If you're a steak person, you can order a steak, but if you like pasta and stuff like that also, you can order the Italian rotini casserole with cheesy breadsticks.
Toya: I think that's what I want. That actually sounds pretty good. It looks good also.
I looked at the rotini in the menu and liked what I saw, so I decided to order it.
Shortly, Rebecca came back with our drinks and took our food order.
Rakim: So when was your last relationship?
I had never been in a relationship..I know it's wrong to lie to him, but should I?
I contemplated for a moment before I answered his question.
Toya: I've never really dated before.
Rakim: Really? Like ever?
Toya: I mean, I've talked to guys before, but I'm new to the whole, dates and things..
Rakim: You could have easily fooled me.
I smiled and thought about what I could have said instead...
This date was going to probably end up in a web of lies... if I take him seriously, and we end up dating, I know the consequences I will face. That is why I'm not too open to him...
