*It's the early hours of the morning, 3am, Max dead at late 2am*Sorry*
Jay's POV:
As soon as the news broke, I turned to Nathan expecting him to be like before when we were all waiting in the waiting room. He wasn't, his reaction was different.
Dead? Nathan repeated the doctor. Before anyone could talk, his eyes blinked once, twice, then he fell backwards. I wasn't expecting him to faint so his Uncle Kumar caught him, lowering him to the ground. One of the nurses and I flew to the ground checking him over.
Shock. He'll be alright...sort of. We have extra beds on this floor. Right Doctor? Nurse One asked.
Right. If you want to take him to rest on one you can. I know your all here for your other father as well. The Doctor said.
This way. Nurse One told us. I met eyes with Kumar and he nodded giving me Nathan. I slipped my arms under his waist and head.
You guys coming? Kumar's voice asked the others. I was already following the nurse to the room.
I heard Kelsey and Jack reply, but nothing from Tom. I heard their shoes coming behind us so that was a yes.
You can place him on that second bed. There was a guy here before, but he just left. Any trouble and just press the red button right there. Nurse One told us before leaving.
I would have made a comment about "the red button" if we had better news. I lay Nathan down on the bed and grabbed one hand. Kelsey and Jack took the couch, Jack's hands on his head, head in between knees while Kelsey tried to pull a quiet Tom towards her.
Let go of me! Tom snapped at her. She undid their hands and looked at the floor.
Tom- Kumar started, but Tom was already gone. Kelsey rose to follow, but Kumar reached out to stop her.
Let him cool off first then comfort him. Kumar told her. Kelsey nodded sitting back down and staring at the floor.
♥
Jack ended up leaving as well a few short minutes later. He said he wanted to be the one to tell their Mom. Kumar left as well, going to his brother's room leaving Kelsey, Nathan, and I.
Kelsey got up saying she was going to get the three of us coffee. I nodded and turned my attention back to Nathan. I started willing Nathan to wake like in the movies hoping maybe that would work. Nothing. So I sat until he took his hand out of mine along with his other hand and balled his fists up rubbing his eyes. I didn't have to remind him what happened. He already knew. I sat on the bed and grabbed him, placing him in on my lap.
Just think Nath. He's probably on his way up there now. I said letting him use my shirt to cry on. He looked up at me with a red eyed glare.
How is that a good thing?! He's gone.. Nathan asked.
Well he's probably almost there now. Once there, maybe sitting on a cloud watching us all. I said. He shook his head putting his head back against me. He stopped crying now, but I did feel a tear every other minute.
Did you ever like seeing your Dad cry? I asked him. He whispered a soft no so I continued.
How about your Papa? Or how about Tom? I asked him. He shook his head no.
Then do you think yoyr Dad wants to see you cry? He knows he left. He had to. He doesn't want to see you cry. He wants to see you smiling. I told him. I knew Kelsey was listening in behind the door, but I made no move to let her in. Nathan shifted in my arms, swinging his legs off the bed. He turned to me and opened his arms. Getting the message I got up and hugged him resting my head in his hair.
Thanks. Where's Tom? Nathan asked me.
He..he left. I said walking over now and opening the door. Kelsey had backed up to make it look like she wasn't listening, but I pulled her in for a hug being careful of the coffee. We pulled away and I took my and Nathan's coffee, handing Nathan his.
Tom's POV:
I snapped at Kelsey then left walking outside. I thought about my 15 year old self calling Dad by his first name and claiming he wasn't my father. Wishing I could go back and tell myself to just forgive him quicker. I didn't know I'd lose him just 10 years later.
He was my Dad for almost 20 years and now he's gone. What's the anniversary going to be like? Christmas? Birthdays? I got married just last night. Dad will never be at Nathan's wedding. I felt bad being the only kid with a wedding that Dad got to go to..
You need to go back in. Uncle Jack said. I jumped since I wasn't paying attention.
Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you, but you need to go back in. It may be hard on you, but it's hard on the rest of us to. Your brother passed out on a bed should have you by his side. Go back in. Uncle Jack told me.
Right. Bye. I said waving as he got in his car and left. I watched his car drive off then walked back in the hospital and into the room the others were in.
Uncle Kumar wasn't there, but Kelsey, Nathan, & Jay still were.
Nathan.. I said capturing his attention. He set his cup down that he was holding and wrapped me in a hug.
Jay says Dad's watching over us. We should smile for him. Nathan whispered in my ear. I opened my eyes and smiled at Jay over Nathan's shoulder. He sipped his coffee, but nodded in my direction.
♥
Nathan and I sat in Papa's room alone. Just the three of us. The nurses said we shouldn't really say anything about Dad's death just yet so we plastered on happy-teary eyed smiles.
Nathan was telling Papa his favorite parts of the wedding while Papa had his eyes half open, looking at Nathan. A nurse poked her head catching only my eyes. She waved me over so I got up, not that Nathan nor Papa noticed and walked out.
Yeah? I asked her.
