It was Saturday. My attempt at rolling out of bed ended up with me, sprawled on the floor. "Shit..." I said as I rubbed my head which now, most likely, had a bruise. My phone vibrated so I went over to see what it said...
You have one new message...
From who? I thought to myself. Can't be Rachel because she doesn't wake up till 11 AM and it was only nine. It can't be Justin or Rayna because they're going to a dental appointment today. I clicked on the message.
Shawn: Hey
Oh god. Shawn. Why would he be texting me now? or at all? Maybe he wants to cancel the English lesson! I quickly reply...
Me: Hi
Shawn: U free Saturday? Next week...
Oh my god...No way. Was he asking me on a date?
Me: Umm yeah. Y?
Shawn: Well, u wanna come to my party Saturday?
Is he inviting me to his party?
Shawn: Everyones invited, including ur dorky friends
Me: They r not dorky! they're better than u at least...
Shawn: I highly doubt that
I wanted to punch him. He had no right to call them that and I intended to set him straight, whether it embarrassed me or not.
Me: U know what? u have no right to call them 'dorky' cos at least their better than u in many ways and also don't care what people say unlike u....
Me: all u care about is ur looks and reputation...ur an asshole!
Shawn: well then feisty pants...getting feisty, aren't we?
Me: shut up Shawn, that's what all u popular kids care about...
Shawn: There's more 2 me than meets the eye...
Now I was just confused. More to him than meets the eye, what was that supposed to mean?
Me: Anyway...I'll come 2 the party
Shawn: Great, and just remember that I do not know u... Cya on Tuesday 4 ur boring lessons at my house... umm at 4?
Oh yeah, I forgot about that for a while and also I still have to lie to my parents...
Me: Hey! boring?
Shawn: I meant intriguing and fascinating!
Me: Yeah right... 4 sounds great
Shawn: Bye feisty pants
Me: Bye
I turn off my phone and hop back into bed. I decided it was too early to get up. Sleep overcame me and I drifted off into a peaceful slumber...
I woke up flustered. I just had a dream about the party and guess what? I was popular but the worst part was my friends hated me. The words 'There's more to me than meets the eye' kept replaying in my head. I shook off the sense of fear and the feelings of confusion. I got up and went to get dressed in my maroon sweatpants and beige sweater. Today was eat and watch Netflix and forget about the world.
During my marathon of Riverdale, I got a text from Rayna to come over for lunch on Sunday. I replied yes. I wonder if Justin will be there too? Justin is Rayna's 'over-protective' older brother but I bet he'll be with the soccer boys for practice. I continue watching and don't even realize my mom calling me to the kitchen to help. I heaved my self up and went over to the kitchen. "I'm making some chicken soup, can you cut those carrots over there?" my mother said. "Ok," I replied. I debated with myself whether to lie to her now about the next tutor sesh with Shawn. Better now than never, my conscience told me.
"Hey, mom..." I said softly. "Hmm" She replied. "I have an umm...a project I have with umm...Rachel in social studies so she asked me if I could come over on Tuesday and umm...Study" I finished. My heart was pounding and my cheeks were turning pink, would she believe it? "Are you sure that's where you're going?" She said sternly. My heart beat 10 times faster than before. "Y-yes," I said, my lips quivering. "Ok then, when?" She said. "Umm, at four, after school..." I said relieved, my heartbeat returned to normal. "Ok... I'll get your dad to pick you up because he has the day off..." "No!" I replied quicker and louder than expected. "Ok then..." she said "I'll umm... walk home," I said, trying to cover up my mistake. "Walk home? With all those kidnappings and crime going on?" she said "Don't worry, I'll be fine and anyway I'll message you when I leave her house" I said, trying to reassure her. "Ok then, I'm trusting you. I hope you're going to Rachel's and not going to hang out with some boy" she said sternly. "Of course not, boys are gross anyway," I said, chopping up the last carrot. "Well the soup will need some time to cook, so let's go watch some tv," she said. "Yes! say yes to the dress is on!" I said excitedly. "Ok then..." she replied. We both walked out of the kitchen together. Then I thought to myself, are boys really gross? specifically the boy I was going to spend my Tuesday afternoon with? I smiled at that thought and went to watch tv with my mom...
