Chapter 3- Would you like to come with me?

The Doctor's POV

"Are you mental?" Ron asked me incredulously. I paused to glance at everyone before continuing on. "No one likes bananas? Really?" I was surprised by the negative response I was getting towards bananas. It almost hurt my feelings. The attention focused back on me again when the brightest witch of her age inquired, "What are you doing here?"

Judging by her squinting eyes and flaring nostrils, she wasn't very excited by our presence and wanted to know who she was dealing with by asking me a bunch of questions. Lucky for Hermione, I complied with her wish and told her why we were here, even though it wasn't planned.

"Well, I'm the Doctor, and I didn't come here intentionally, if that's what you wanted to know. My friend Donna and I simply stumbled upon this place by accident." I paced around, unable to keep still for such a long time period. How did these humans do it? I circled around the Golden Trio, waiting for Hermione's response. She seemed to be in deep thought over what I said.

After a full minute of silence, I determined she wasn't going to say anything anytime soon, so I decided to carry on the conversation. "So, you've never heard of me? The Doctor, a Timelord from Gallifrey, 907 years old. I'd be happy to fill you in on the whole paragraph. Said it so many times, now it's just stuck in this big head of mine." This grabbed their attentions, and I was bombarded by questions all at once.

"Sorry, did you say Timelord?" Harry exclaimed, confirming what he had heard. "907?" Hermione questioned with an unbelievable look. Ron found his way into the conversation by asking, "Why do they call you the Doctor?" After a pause of silence, Ron protested sheepishly, "What? I can't ask a question, too?"

Hermione shook her head and wondered aloud, specifically to me. "How have you heard of us, but we've never heard of you?"

I thought for a millisecond or two before replying with the easiest to understand response, or at least I hoped so. "Well, there could be many reasons, but it's a possibility that you're in a parallel universe."

"Excuse me?" Hermione gasped in disbelief. "I'm sorry, but that's simply ridiculous." I whispered to Donna, "Some people just don't understand quantum physics.", only to receive a glare from Hermione. I coughed hurriedly and continued on.

"Anyway, the point is that I'm honored to meet you, which, by the way, I usually don't say to every new person I meet. What I do say, however, is, "Would you like to come with me?" Another spacious silence enveloped the conversation. This wasn't how I imagined Hogwarts student life. Perhaps it was my sudden arrival. Not to boast or anything, but I do seem to provoke interesting reactions out of people.

Realizing that I would have to repeat the question, I told the Golden Trio, "That was a question at the end of my sentence. Did you catch it? I was stating and actually asking you, 'Would you like to come with me?'" I watched Ron and Harry's eyes as they seem to sort of go back and forth between curiosity and awe. I could tell they doubted me a little. Honestly, who wouldn't? Well, another Timelord, obviously.

After much consideration (not really), Hermione took charge and spoke the boys' opinions with her own voice.

"Come with you where? You can't apparate off the school grounds." Thankfully, I had a comeback, and I informed Hermione happily, "Oh, we know that. Quick question. What year are you three in?" I watched as Hermione shook her head and flared her nostrils, much like Professor McGonagall. "I think that's enough." Hermione informed me sternly.

"So, I'm guessing that's a no?" I confirmed with a sigh. "Well, if that's what you want. Donna, come on. I think it's time for us to leave." I said sadly, although I had a plan. I always have a plan. I was confident they were going to change their minds once they saw the inside when I opened the doors.

Trying to be as dramatic as possible, I murmured depressingly, "I guess this is goodbye." I nudged Donna's shoulder and gave her a look I hoped she would understand. Luckily, she caught on and trailed off with a sorrowful 'yeah'.

I listened closely for the sounds that were due to follow as I flung open the doors to my precious time machine. Sure enough, I heard gasps, as well as 'oohs' and 'aahs'. "Still gonna stay behind?" I asked the Golden Trio with a smirk. Success.
